Varusteleka Road Show: Kuopio SEP 26th - 28th 2019
For once, the people of Savonia will carry their responsibility, as our container shop is brought smack in the middle of Kuopio Square from Thursday to Saturday in late September.
The landing zone is Kuopio Square and the container is open as follows:
- Thursday SEP 26th: 10-18
- Friday SEP 27th: 10-19
- Saturday SEP 28th: 09-16:30
We reserve the right to change opening times at a whim. Subscribe to the Facebook-event to be notified of possible changes!
The selection varies somewhat depending on the occasion. Naturally, we can't offer a very wide range of products, but we carry a good amount of fitting samples and you can place an order with free shipping from the container.
Come around and say hi!
This time, we carry the following key products
Finnish Canteen, 1 l
Finnish Army current model canteen. A very practical water bottle with a large opening and a metal hook for carrying without a pouch. You know this piece of kit is pretty good because the soldiers don't complain about it.
The traditional Shemagh scarf, which has, surprisingly enough, found its way to western military use. Many colors available.
Särmä Merino Socks
If you still use cotton socks, dump them now and get these instead. These are superb for outdoor use, but work just as well as formal wear too! These aren't thick, so they can be used around the year. Made with our own specs in Finland.
Kalakalle Fish Cock, 182 g, canned
A traditional Finnish delicacy in a canned version, 5 years of shelf life and does not contain cock! If "Fish Cock" doesn't automatically mean food to you, it's a Finnish specialty - fish baked inside rye bread. This is a perfect snack or trekking food, always ready to eat, and contains enough energy to keep you going and enough high-quality protein to keep you in shape.
Särmä Merino Wool Hoodie
Finally, a proper hoodie - in this case, the price doesn't come from a big name, but rather from the material, which is thickish Merino wool, which is probably the best fabric ever. Oh, and we haven't forgotten to design the cut properly too. Whether you like to move on foot or two wheels, for the love of God buy this!
Särmä Merino Watch Cap
Standard woolly cap engineered to its full potential. Superb fit, uncompromising workmanship and the best possible materials don't come cheap but this one should last for a lifetime, provided you don't lose it.
Kalakalle Ham Cock, 182 g, canned
A ham variation of a traditional Finnish delicacy in a canned version, 5 years of shelf life and does not contain cock! This is a perfect snack or trekking food, always ready to eat, and contains enough energy to keep you going and enough high-quality protein to keep you in shape.
Särmä Wood Stove
A wood-burning hobo stove of very very very Finnish design! This might not be the prettiest or lightest stove out there but it works, packs incredibly flat, and is modestly priced. Of course, 100% made in Finland.
Särmä Merino Fingerless Gloves
A pair of fingerless gloves. In addition to the timeless hobo impression, fingerless gloves leave your fingertips free for all kinds of fiddling and work pretty well as glove liners. These are better than most, being made of Merino wool in a strange place called Tampere just north of here.
Kuivalihakundi Beef Jerky, 150 g
Probably the best beef jerky we've sunk our teeth in. Moreover, it comes in bigger 150 g portions and is made entirely in Finland, from Finnish beef, and contains no suspicious additives - an honest meat product through and through.
Särmä Rain Poncho
A standard waterproof poncho is probably one of the most versatile things you can own. This lightweight model is easy to carry with you anywhere and offers easy protection from wind and rain. A good range of colors serves a multitude of users, depending on if you want to be seen or not draw too much attention.
Särmä TST L1 Balaclava, Merino Wool
A functional multi-purpose piece of headgear, can be worn as a balaclava or folded up to form a cap or folded down to form a tube scarf. Lightweight merino wool construction, highly breathable, comfortable and moisture-wicking.
Särmä Fabric Wax
Believe it or not, there was a time before spray-on treatments and polymer technology, but conditions were as unforgiving as ever. Protection from wind and water was a necessity, which was met with waxed canvas. A combination of paraffin and beeswax is a time-proven way to treat cotton and mixed fabrics to be wind- and waterproof, right on the spots you want it to be.
Särmä Softshell Jacket
Today, softshell is pretty much what tight wool was back in the day; a great general purpose fabric for colder and unstable weather. No wonder they make most of the sportswear out of this. Our jacket is just a shell, so you can layer it any way you wish.
Särmä Windproof Fishtail Parka
There are many Fishtail Parkas but this one is ours. Standing on the shoulders of the US M51 Parka, we developed our own version. It's a highly requested model so it had to be done.
Särmä Wool Comb
Wool comb, cool womb. Ha-ha! So what is this thing and why would you need one? If you wear clothes made of wool or synthetic knits, you have seen little fuzzy bobbles appear as the garment wears. Pilling is the problem, meet the cure!
Scho-Ka-Kola, 100 g Tin Box
This is the famous German energy chocolate you're looking for! This brown gold in the easily recognizable round tin box has kept ze Germans awake and efficient since the 1930s. Scho-Ka-Kola is chocolate with lots of caffeine, essentially a mild combat drug! (Contrary to rumors, the recipe never included other psychoactive stimulants apart from caffeine.)
Scho-Ka-Kola, 100 g Tin Box, 10-Pack
Here's a heroic dose of that famous German energy chocolate you're looking for!
Särmä Commando Cap, Merino Wool
The Finnish army "commando cap" is far more than just any woolly watch cap, it's something of a Finnish military tradition and very functional too, the double layered construction giving it added warmth and insulation.
