Czech M85 Field Jacket, Olive, Surplus

Price 14.99 USD excluding sales tax

The Czech M85 uniform is really good, much as some might hate to admit it. Unlike the trousers, the jacket is not even hindered by ugliness, at least not as much as the trousers. This is a four-season jacket that's built to last. Like the trousers, it's more or less a direct copy of the Soviet Mobutu super-commando uniform's jacket.

  • Hem length is as is usual for field jackets - ends just above the crotch
  • Button closure
  • Collar can be pulled up to cover the neck with a button tab to keep it in place
  • Cuffs have buttons so you can open them
  • Two chest pockets, two hem pockets - the hem pockets are positioned on the backside, so your combat webbing doesn't come over them
  • Two inner pockets - one big and one small, the latter being intended for a field dressing
  • Elastic tightening cord at waist
  • Button-closed epaulets

Based on our burn test, the jacket seems to be made of a very thick cotton weave cloth that might have a small polyester content. The fabric and seams are built to last.

Size info

Sizes are given in centimeters. First up is user height, then waist circumference. If you use inches, divide the centimeter sizes by 2,54, or go ogle it for conversion websites.

Czech Army Surplus

In theory, the jackets are used, though some seem like new. Some pieces might be missing the elastic tightening cord. The used ones are in a very nice condition too.

Just opened my package containing this field jacket. What a score these are. Fabric has a good weight to it, sleeves are a good length too which can be difficult for my height ( I am 187cm tall). I would buy again.

These jackets are a great score, specially at this price point. Mine came in very good condition (although with marks in the removable epaulettes covers) and the fabrics seem really durable. It is comfortable but pretty stiff, not as soft as the regular civvie clothes but it's getting better with use. The pockets are difficult to use when you have the jacket on.

This jacket stands out for use in the field, protecting your skin from tree branches and bushes perfectly. The back pockets are very handy to transport bulky things without interfering with your activity.

According to some tests I've made and information from other shop, I think 180 jackets are meant up to 1'89m height, and 172 up to 1'79m height, since being 1'77m 172 fits me better than the 180 which is a bit too long in the sleeves and body.

Just a few things concerning this jacket (I bought it few years ago in our surplus store in Czechia).
The material of this batch (later production) is probably 50/50 PES and cotton (same as mine). Earlier production were made from 65/35 PES and viscose.
Fabric is really tought and stiff. IMO it does not breathe very well.
Since, the combination of tightly sewn on buttons and characteristics of the fabric, pocket buttons are awkward to use.
To sum it up, from my perspective, it is a good jacket for gardening or related activities since it is sturdy and hardwearing. For other activities I always choose an alternative (BW parka or swedish M/59).
