Carinthia Finnish M05 Sleeping Bag, M05 Woodland Camo

The legendary Finnish army sleeping bag but now in the M05 woodland camo. Custom-made for us, so only available from Varusteleka! Comes with the sleeping bag, compression bag, and the detachable liner. The spark-protected foot end makes this perfect for sleeping in front of a camp fire or a tent stove. Apart from the custom color, this has the same properties as the Finnish Defence Forces Carinthia sleeping bag. That one is the similar to Carinthia Defence 4 but much better - it has a unique addition of a spark protected foot area and a removable and washable Carinthia liner worth seventy euros! Simple, easy to use, low maintenance, and above all durable. Perfect for all sorts of rough and tough camping and bushcrafting.

The mummy shape contours to your body shape. With no unnecessary space, your body heat also heats the sleeping bag more efficiently. The tapered foot section also reduces weight and stuff size. Trapezoidal foot section: Experience has shown that the trapezoidal cut provides the ultimate foot space. In a normal sleeping position, the feet do not poke the insulation outward, and thus they don't create cold spots. There is also enough room to store a shoe bag or extra clothing at the foot end unless you are an NBA player.

The bag has ample space for the head and shoulders, and the head opening can be adjusted to protect you from the elements. When the weather is warmer, you can also keep your head outside the bag. Equipped with a two-way zipper. There is also a velcro flap protecting the zipper from the elements.

Comes with a compression bag, which compresses both height and lengthwise. Also included is a liner bag to extend the life of the sleeping bag itself - just wash the liner when required and leave the bag alone.

The liner is attached to the dedicated zippers and cord loops inside the bag. It even goes around the head opening with a zipper. When you open the sleeping bag, also the liner bag opens. And when it is hot, you can sleep in just the liner bag.

Spark-protected foot end

Moreover, a Finnish specialty is a fire retardant Nomex fabric at the foot end on the outside to prevent sparks from damaging the bag when you sleep close to an open fire or a stove. On the spark protection, there are also loops for hanging the bag.

Materials

• Shellproof outer shell - lightweight, hard-wearing, ripstop-reinforced and specially treated polyamide, which is both wind and waterproof (1,000 mm), yet breathable. The outer shell fits loosely over the bag innards, providing an extra insulating layer of air. This also eliminates heat loss due to seams combining the shell with the fillings. Overall this feature enhances the bag's performance considerably.
• Shelltrans lining - soft to the skin ripstop-reinforced polyamide with excellent moisture-wicking capabilities keeps you comfortable through the night.
• Thermoflect, a very thin, very lightweight aluminum material that reflects body heat. Thermoflect raises the sleeping bag's heat-retaining capacity by about 11%.
• G-Loft filling - Carinthia's own, in-house hollow fiber made in Austria. Highly compressible, excellent weight-insulation ratio, and also moisture resistant, meaning that it will work even under long term use in damp conditions.
• Double-layer G-Loft filling. Two G-LOFT Plus insulation layers are arranged in such a way that the quilting is offset. The shell is attached afterward, creating a further layer of air between the quilted insulation and the shell. With no stitch perforations in the shell, it is fairly water-resistant and free of unintended ventilation.

Carinthia sleeping bags are not entirely PFC-free, but they do have the Oeko-Tex certificate, Standard 100.

Temperature ratings

Tested according to ISO 23537 / EN 13537, where "Comfort" represents a standard female sleeping comfortably in a relaxed position, and "Lower Limit" is where a standard male can sleep for eight hours without waking in a curled position. "Extreme" is not relevant to the common user: it's the temperature where a standard female can survive for six hours without dying of hypothermia.

• Extreme: -35 °C / -31 °F

The values are comparable between manufacturers who conform to the standard. Note that some manufacturers label the Comfort as "Female Comfort," and the Lower Limit value may be presented as "Comfort Limit."

If you're a "warm sleeper," look at the Lower Limit figure when choosing a suitable sleeping bag. If you get cold easily, look at the Comfort rating instead. Quite simple.
