US Air Force Wool Winter Balaclava, Foliage Green, Surplus

A thick and warm foliage green 100% wool winter balaclava. These are 1980s vintage from the US air forces, right in the golden age of Top Gun. Despite being decades old, they are in very nice condition. Perfect for winter deer hunting, ice fishing, or lying in the snow stargazing. Don't enter a bank with this on though. They might shoot you there.

Materials and care

100% wool. It can feel a bit coarse at first if you’re not used to thick wool but it will get softer in use. If you have very delicate skin, put our merino wool Särmä TST L1 Balaclava next to your skin and this on top. The manufacturer recommends dry cleaning only but a gentle wool program should also work. You don’t really need to wash wool that often because it won’t start to stink that easily. Simply airing it out is usually enough.

Sizing

These came in three sizes. It is worth noting that knitted wool is very stretchy, so finding a perfect fit isn’t precision engineering. For example, the size Medium was nice and snug on a size 60 (7 ½) head. However, if you like a loose fit already in the beginning, Large would be better.

Condition

Very nicely used US air force surplus. At least some of these appear unused. These will serve you a long time.
