Features

80CrV2 carbon steel blade (59 HRC), which is very good for puukko style knives because it is easy to sharpen and retains the sharpness quite well. The knife has a beautiful curly birch handle. The sheath is of the traditional Finnish style, wet formed leather, fitting snugly over the handle. 4-6 cm (1.6" - 2.4") wide belt hanger.

Carbon steel is good stuff for knives, but without proper care, it can rust. Always clean and dry off the blade after use and remember to oil it now and then (any cooking oil will do just fine).

These types of traditional knives have been around for ages, and for a reason: they are rugged, simple and practical. They have been used as weapons almost as much as everyday tools, at least in the past. Still today they are an essential piece of kit for any outdoors enthusiast. What makes a traditional puukko and leuku special compared to modern blades is that they have no saw-edge bullshit or anything like that - you have a simple, strong, and sharp carbon steel blade with a wooden handle. This truly is all you need, if you know how to use it.

Made by Harri Merimaa / Woodsknife Oy, made in Finland.

Warning! Before buying, please make sure that these are legal to import to your country! We take no responsibility if the customs officer confiscates your precious knife!

This a very well executed modern example of a time tested design. The blade steel takes a nice keen edge. Balance point is about one finger past the handle, just right for light chopping tasks. Contour of the handle is subtle and comfortable, filling the hand well in the 'hammer' grip, 'sabre' grip, and when 'choking up' with thumb on the spine. I did slightly deepen the flats behind the brass bolster to fit my fingers, which was easily done with fine sandpaper and looks just fine. The curly birch and oil finish is quite forgiving. Decorative touches are tastefully minimal. The sheath is a lovely leather 'sock' style with a liner, which will maintain it's shape and prolong it's life. Retention is firm yet still allows the knife to be drawn easily. When sheathed, the knife presents just enough handle to wrap your pinky and ring finger around it, and positions the rest of the hand right where it belongs as the knife is drawn. One happy surprise with the birch handle is that when it gets wet, it's traction improves dramatically. All in all I'm very pleased with it. Thanks, Harri!

I thought the price was too good to be true and I don't understand how they can make a profit with only charging ~$100 Canadian.
I bought a much smaller but similar knife in Sweden and was impressed by the workmanship and quality of the knife, though I spent twice as much (~$200).
The feel of this knife is hard to explain, but it just fits. Its almost like the handle was made specifically for my hand.
It has a good weight for the size and so far has worked well in general camping tasks. The edge was sharp when it arrived and it had no sign of dulling or folding since using it.
This is a great gift for any outdoorsman. I would say that I would buy more products from Harri Merimaa but I feel that this knife will be passed down to my son/grandchildren.

Solid knife. It performed an array of camping tasks and helped clean and butcher several grouse with ease. As noted, the handle actually becomes more grippy with moisture. The sheath is quite tight on mine, but the leather will ease with use. It is a great combo of form and function and at this price it can’t be beat.

The blade bevel came damaged, so i had it professionally sharpened, blade damaged again with light bushcraft use, professionally sharpened again, bevel chipped out AGAIN cutting thumb thick soft wood. Unfortunately this knife blade has defects in the tempering along the bevel. I'm going to try a completely different grind on the scandi but I don't have high hopes. Pretty much have given up on this knife and it's outside of the return policy, I just didn't have the opportunity to use it enough inside the warranty period. Unfortunate and sad but I wouldn't recommend
