A snow shovel is an essential tool for anyone living where it snows. These are high-quality Swiss army surplus pieces and the handy size makes these perfect for keeping in your car trunk or strapping onto your rucksack for a walk in the woods.

The head is made from a couple of pieces of aluminum and spot welded and/or riveted together. The result is very sturdy, you don't need to worry about accidentally hitting rocks or some such when shoveling, this piece won't snap in half.

The wooden shaft can easily be replaced if needed - with a longer one, might we suggest! The shovel head has a split tail that is tightened by a simple ring, when tightened a stud presses into the shaft to secure it firmly in place. No screws or such are used in the construction, simple and very reliable!

 • Length 60 cm / 23.5"
 • Weight approx. 550 g / 1.95 oz.

And that's not all, these seem all to be of the same batch, made by ASS in 1939! With quality like this was probably the first and last series ever made, this thing is virtually indestructible!

Swiss army surplus

Used but in really nice shape. One did have a couple of bullet holes through it though, this doesn't affect its snow digging capabilities in any way.

It lives under the back seat of the truck for the bad days I will need it... Dated 1939 on blade, handle is about perfect, metal had no cracks, a couple of tiny dings in edge where someone might have clunked it against a rock in the Alps. I will make a spare longer handle too, in case I ever need to dig UNDER a vehicle.

None of the plastic crap car snow shovels at Walmart will still be perfectly useable 80 years later!

I got one for each car and one extra for home. Look totally new, but the stamp on the metal says ASS 1939.
Some antique dealers say they were made in Munich 1939 by a company named Ass (Ace in English) and sold to Switzerland.
Worth the price for that stamp alone.
