Swedish M39 Field Shirt, Surplus
The old "Farfartröja", Swedish for "Granpa's Shirt" is a no-nonsense, crew-necked shirt with a button-up collar. In all honesty, the model was very ubiquitous back in the day and is fashionable even today under the moniker "Henley Shirt". It has certainly stood the test of time quite well!

The model is really close to one of the '30s German ones, which raises suspicions as the Swedes have normally sided with the good guys. Hmm!
Wear this shirt when chopping wood, building a house, working in your fields, and other hardy shit, or as a carefree shirt to wear when spending time in the woods. We suggest combining it with wool pants, jackboots, and foul language.
Material
The material is very durable cotton. However, the seemingly thick material has a twist: it's loose-knit which makes it naturally stretchy, like a dense net! The shirt is rather comfortable to wear, breathable, and relatively fast-drying. Don't expect miracles, though - cotton is always cotton.
You can machine-wash the shirt in warm or even hot water. Then again, shirts like these should have a definite odor of sweat, smoke, and the bush.
Size system
The original Swedish sizes are either impossible to read or just plain silly but we have roughly converted all to European sizes. The weave is quite stretchy, making these somewhat forgiving. The sleeves are all short; in the old days, they would not have revealed full-sleeve tattoos and whatnot.
Rough conversion from EU to US jacket sizes
EU Size | US Size |
---|---|
EU 40 | 31.5" |
EU 42 | 33" |
EU 44 | 34.5" |
EU 46 | 36" |
EU 48 | 38" |
EU 50 | 39.5" |
EU 52 | 41" |
EU 54 | 42.5" |
Swedish army surplus
The latest batch is mostly unissued or lightly used but has seen a lot of storage so they are not "as new". The exact color shade may vary..

The one downside that isn't really one is that the sleeves really are short (like, they only go a third of the way beyond my elbow), so it's pretty much a rolled-up shirt only thing.
So yeah, I totally endorse paying 13 bucks for a old, smelly, patched-up shirt with deficient sleeves. Not kidding.

Erittäin mukava päällä vaikka nopealla vilkaisulla näyttää aika sarkamaiselle.
Ainoa miinus, että koot ovat aika pieniä, joten olen pakotettu tilaamaan paitoja lisää suuremmassa koossa. Nykyinen 42 on hieman "too sexy".
