Bow saws don't see much professional action these days, so the stuff they sell at hardware stores is usually low quality Chinese toys for light household duty. This is real deal army stuff, and you can feel the quality from the weight alone. One proper feature is the edge protector - it's wood, attaching with leather string. They don't make them like this anymore.
Genuine army surplus
Swedish army doesn't go to war or even training, so the lot we got was mostly unissued and disregarding a few storage scuffs, in perfect condition. Of course if there's an used example in the lot, it's very pretty.

It's a user straight out the box: the blade is razor sharp and whistles through thick green Leyland cypress and spruce. Thin kerf + perfect tension + sharpness = minimum effort. You could add a new (30") blade with a different tooth pattern to use on seasoned wood, but the tension and weight of this saw are designed for green wood. Replacement blades are available, but the original blade should last a long time. Could probably be resharpened if you have a diamond file. The frame is bombproof and means the saw cuts efficiently under its own weight, so no need to apply any downward pressure at all. Unlike most Chinesium saws the symmetrical frame on this one means it's much easier to use with someone either end, but the costs of small talk might outweigh the benefits of an additional pull stroke. Insane value. The only possible downside is that it blends so well into the background that it's hard to find after you've put it down and staggered away in a hypoxic state. Add white paint to complete the misery when it snows.
