As the weather gets cold and nasty, so do cotton undergarments. The answer is to switch to merino wool. These have a nice, snug fit for best functionality. Complete set with a shirt and long johns!

More details on the included garments:

100% merino wool, weight 180 g/m². These are moisture wicking, dry fast and are self-rinsing. They are also machine-washable, but washing is usually unnecessary - wool cleans itself. If you have to wash, it can be done at 40 degrees Celsius (104 F). When not in use, air them out and give them a good shake after that. You only need to wash the clothes if you see stains or they start to smell really bad. This usually requires lots of continuous use without airing.

Minus half a star because the collar feels as if it has an 'odd shape' (rides a bit high on front which irritates my neck hair, maybe waxing the neck hair is a good solution?) Excellent value for money, these are incredibly comfortable and do exactly what they are designed to do! Not sure how I have managed to cope during previous cold weather ventures without these.

Edit 1 : After about a year of occasional outdoor use (being a base layer underneath trousers and a shirt), many holes are appearing at random places on both the shirt and long johns.

Edit 2 : (2023) Thank you to Mauritas W. I had not considered moths when storing these; will take those suggestions and precautions towards all merino gear I have especially these. Luckily I have managed to repair the holes as I want to keep these going due to the great quality and performance. Still seeing use in the colder months to this day, using them more frequently in day-to-day activity on top of outdoor use.

Vuoden käytön jälkeen kalsarit ovat kulahtaneet ja venyneet niin, että riisuessa rusahti sormi neuloksesta läpi ja paitaan on pinttynyt järkyttävä haju jota ei saa pois millään vaikka vaatetta on hoidettu ohjeen mukaisesti. Vuoden kestivät ok, mutta ei todellakaan hintansa väärti, pettymys kyllä kun aiemmin Varustelekan kamppeet ovat olleet pitkäikäisiä.

Muutaman kuukauden satunnaisen käytön jälkeen paita ja housut aivan reikäisiä. Eikä edes mistään kulumaa ottavista kohdista kuten polvista tai kyynärpäistä, vaan mahassa, kyljessä ja reidessä. Aspasta vastasivat että "nämä on merinoa, ei nämä niin hyvin kestäkään" että kikkeliskokkelis, mitäs ostit. Valtaisa pettymys, ei voi suositella.

Särmä merinoalusasu piti minut lämpimänä pari talvea kylmässä talossa siten, että asu oli käytännössä yötä päivää päällä. Vaatteet kuluivat lopulta puhki kainaloista ja haarovälistä. En olisi pannut pahakseni pitempääkään ikää, mutta tilaan nyt joka tapauksessa uudet. Malli on parempi kuin muissa kokeilemissani merinokalsareissa.

I would suspect your pants suffered from a moth infestation. This happened to me a few years ago. Before putting them away for the summer I aired out my Devolt base layer long johns, 100% merino. But I did not wash them. Next winter the crotch area looked like swiss cheese. Wool moths prefer them parts contaminated with 'DNA-material' over clean wool.

Nice feel, but extremely thin.
Only good. For - 5C or warmer as a base layer. Fits extremely long. I'm 5'9 and got a small. Both the top and bottom are at a minimum 6inch long.
Says 180g/m but I have other base layers at 150 that are heavier, and thicker.
If it's a 'little' small it is absolutely see-through. Stripper in the window thin.

JahtiJakt ja markettisettejä omistaneena tässä havainnot. Tosi ohut mutta kestänyt vähintään yhtä hyvin käytössä kuin aiemmat. Malli todella paljon parempi ku mikään aiempi sarja. Ei ole haju tarttunut ja hengittää hyvin.
Jos parannettavaa pitäisi keksiä niin näihinhän voisi laittaa ”laput” vaikka esille niin tunnistus ois helpompaa. Nyt on melko tihrustus ku niskassa on vain pienenpieni XL . Iso Särmä merino lappu keskelle niskaa ja paikka nimelle ja pesuohje siihen samaan settiin.
