Maintaining your membrane clothing with Tx.Direct Wash-In enhances the performance of your gear, keeping you warmer and drier. Recommended fabrics for this product include Gore-Tex®, Sympatex®, and other such waterproof materials. Volume 300 ml / 10.1 fl. oz.

Breathability Depends on Water Repellency

Breathable waterproof garments are most likely to become moist inside when used for an extended time in wet conditions. If the outer shell absorbs a lot of water, the garment can lose up to 70% of its breathability. Therefore, maintaining durable water repellency (DWR) in the outer fabric of the garment is essential to ensure its functionality. DWR treatments wear off over time and need to be renewed with suitable products.

Waterproof fabrics must allow moisture vapor to pass through, or breathe, otherwise, sweat cannot evaporate, leading to moisture. If the outer fabric absorbs water and becomes wet, breathability is reduced.

Tech Wash Usage

In case of tough stains, apply Tech Wash® directly and use a sponge or soft nylon brush to treat the stains before washing. Remove all non-washable parts. Shake the bottle well before use. Follow the care label instructions, and avoid using regular detergents.

In the Washing Machine

  • Remove all detergent residue from the washing machine detergent compartment
  • Place up to 2 clean garments in the washing machine
  • Use 150 ml / 5 fl. oz. in medium/hard water* areas and 100 ml / 3.5 fl. oz. in soft water areas for washing 1-2 items
  • Wash according to the care label instructions

* If, for example, your water kettle gets calcium build-up, you have hard water. In extremely hard water, use 200 ml / 7 fl. oz. per wash.

By Hand

The washing can also be done by hand. Use gloves.

  • Immerse 1-2 garments in 6 liters of lukewarm water in a bucket or sink
  • Use 150 ml / 5 fl. oz. in medium/hard water areas and 100 ml / 3.5 fl. oz. in soft water areas for washing 1-2 items
  • Wash the garment by hand as usual
  • Rinse three times in clean water
  • Air dry or tumble dry on a low setting if the laundry tag allows for such things

Tx.Direct Usage

Remove all non-washable parts and clean the garment first in a separate wash using a detergent suitable for membrane clothing, such as Nikwax Tech Wash. Follow the care label instructions for washing. The garment does not need to be dried before waterproofing.

In the Washing Machine

  • Shake the bottle well before use
  • Remove all detergent residue from the washing machine detergent compartment
  • Place a maximum of 2 clean garments in the washing machine
  • Use 100 ml / 3.4 fl. oz. of the product per garment
  • Run a 30°C synthetic cycle with a slow spin
  • Do not machine-wash garments if taped seams have become damaged*
  • To maintain waterproofing, always wash with a detergent suitable for membrane clothing – do not use regular detergents

*Faulty taped seams can sometimes detach from old or worn garments. They can be reattached using appropriate products after waterproofing and drying.

By Hand

Nikwax TX.Direct® Wash-In can be applied by hand. Use gloves.

  • Immerse 1 clean garment in 6 liters of hand-warm water in a bucket or sink
  • Add 50 ml / 1.7 fl- oz. of TX.Direct®
  • Agitate to mix, leave to soak for 5-10 minutes, then agitate thoroughly
  • Rinse with cold water until the water runs clear
  • Nikwax TX.Direct® treated clothing does not need any heat treatment to develop durable water repellency (DWR)
  • Air dry or tumble dry on a low setting if the laundry tag allows for such things
