Le Kahvi ('Le Ka' for Varusteleka and 'kahvi' for coffee) is made of 70 % Ugandan Robusta and 30 % of Guatemalan Arabica. Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine as arabica beans! Lovers of strong coffee will surely enjoy this.
Package size 225 grams, filter ground.
This coffee is organic, and it has the Fairtrade Finland certificate.
Our coffee is made by ROST Coffee Roastery from Helsinki.

Joo kyllä tätä kerran ostaa mutta kyseessä on kuitenkin suodatinkahvi joka maksaa viisi kertaa enemmän kuin markettien vastaavat eikä nyt kyllä kahvihifistelijöille mitään järisyttävää elämystä tarjoa.
Ihan hyvää kyllä mutta mahtavalla pakkauksellakaan varustettuna ei kyllä hyvitä hintaansa.

I bought this because I like African coffees in general and I haven't tried anything with robusta in it for decades, and I was also intrigued by the description.
roast date: 7-31(nice and fresh!)
ordered: 8-18
received (USA): 9/9 --this is not Varusteleka's fault, the package seems to have been delayed in transit for unknown reasons once it reached these shores. Other packages from Varusteleka arrived speedily. I personally yearn for a future when strong stimulants can flit blithely across international borders like butterflies, but these are unenlightened times. Still, we forge ahead.
roast quality/character: very good, tastes like a blend of medium roasts, not burned to a crisp like bad espresso.
brewing methodology: "pourover" gizmo, ceramic, whimsical, gold filter
flavor: (EDIT: please disregard my previous bullshit. This coffee is awesome and complex. When brewed weak, it doesn't have a "full" body, but in this sense it is highly drinkable. When brewed strong, it is full-bodied, with the arabica presenting up front, with a smooth, not overpowering, clean finish. It would be possible to brew the coffee quite strong and it would still be highly drinkable. The flavor characteristics come together like a well-balanced pinot noir. Give this coffee a chance, but approach it on its own terms. also BREW IT STRONG.)
subjective effect: (male, 220lbs/100kg, dosage: three cups slowly) Strong. Highly stimulating, more so than my usual coffee. Very clean effects. May cause some extremely minor tooth grinding, probably nothing to worry about.
price: comparable to a pound of arabica where I live, + $9.99 shipping (buy some other stuff)
overall experience: I would not buy it again because it took so long to arrive. Which is, again, not Varusteleka's fault. Does Uncle Sam quarantine food items? I am ignorant of these matters. At any rate, this is too long to wait for coffee, plus the shipping costs are ultimately prohibitive. Thus, I would recommend this as a very nice once-in-a-while treat, or perhaps something to stock for an upcoming outdoor expedition, and not as a replacement for America's daily coffee fix. So not the best value for my particular situation, but, in every other way, this coffee met or exceeded my expectations. I feel fantastic. I'm going to brew some more coffee.

This pre-ground coffee is a nice break from what's generally available in Switzerland.
The commonly sold brands, when ground as fine as Le Kahvi develop a really strong flavor, which upsets Swiss tongues, just like Italian neighbors' celebrations upset our ears. But usually, we put up with it and only complain to each other while passing each other in the stairwell.
Le Kahvi is different. The overall coffee experience is smooth and enjoyable, perfect to ramp up the day's productivity, unlike the overpriced italian coffee available at work.
As a sidenote, I would prefer to buy unground beans, but this'll do until they become available.

Juon kahvini presskannussa valmistettuna ja ostan aina ruotsalaista tummapaahtoista. Kerran pääsin Sotimassa maistamaan tätä ja ihastuin joten ostin. Nyt teen niin että laitan 50/50 sitä kahvia mitä yleensä juon ja tämän Le kahvin.

Not just some novelty, this stuff's pretty good. If you like a rich, deep flavored coffee it hits the spot. It's a nice change of pace compared to a lot of the "darker" blends you can buy in the US because it actually delivers by being more flavorful and slightly bitter, but still very enjoyable. Also agree with others here recommending to go a little more strong when you brew, just to remove any possibility of it tasting watered down. Only negatives in my book are the cost and distance from home. It's slightly more expensive vs. other premium blends you can get here but you can definitely do a lot worse.
