A traditional kuksa cup made of a Finnish eco composite material - way better than a regular plastic cup, still virtually impervious to elements. You can do anything with this except burn it or put it in the microwave. Teaspoon included.
The Kupilka 21 is one damn fine cup that not only looks nice but has a long service life and is virtually care-free (just wash it now and then of course). It also gets a beautiful patina in use! The word Kupilka comes from Karelia and means 'favorite cup'.
- Volume: 2.1 dl / 7.1 fl oz
- Weight: 83 g / 30 oz.
- Height: 60 mm / 2.5"
- Diameter: 93 mm / 3.5"
- Length: 165 mm / 6.5"
Finnish supercomposite!
When you handle the cup, it kinda feels like good old bakelite:
Our very own Kareline® natural fibre composite: Eco-friendly cellulose fibres from certified Finnish forests reinforce the material with FDA approved polypropylene used as an adhesive. (Ratio: 50% wood-based cellulose fibres + 50% thermoplastic). Products from this material age beautifully yet keeping their qualities. The development of Kareline® natural fibre composite material was initiated by Puugia, the Centre for Wood Technology in Joensuu, Finland.
The products can be recycled, incinerated for heat energy or returned to us for re-use. Kupilka® fulfils the requirements of EU No 10/2011 and 1935/2004/EC §3.
You can even send the product back to Kupilka for reuse. Essentially this only happens when you get bored with it, as the service life is virtually indefinite.
The material has a nice amount of good features:
- Can take both boiling water (+100°C / 212 F) as well as -30°C / -22 F temperatures.
- Can be hand or machine washed.
- Does not absorb smells or tastes: you can drink tea, coffee, water, and booze from it!
- Dyed with colors that are approved for food contact. There is no coating that would wear off during use.
Kupilka complies with the requirements of the EU Plastic regulation. It is thus approved to be used for food/drinks and doesn’t contain any bamboo or other plant-based fibers that aren’t approved by the regulation.
Made by Kupilka
Kupilka is a Finnish company through and through. They started to make eco composite material products in the early 2000s using green energy. This probably gives you some idea of the values of said company. Those values correspond with ours pretty well. Made in Finland!

Protip Lekalle/muille: Kupilkan pidempivartinen sporkki. Ei mee sormet möhnään kun kaivelee retkiruokapussien pohjia kuten normi sporkilla eikä myöskään lämpene.

From afar it looks like curved wood, but from close it resembles this strange material used for artificial climbing holds. By all means it make you look like a caveman. Despite its exotic aspect, its a excellent product.
Very light, empty the mug and the spoon weighs less than 100 g (tested on a scale mine is 94 g). It does not conduct heat and is pretty robust. You can drop it on a hard surfaces without risk.
