Massive bleeding is not unheard of in civilian life. Everyday traffic is one risk or something can happen at work. If you fantasize about saving the day, carry a tourniquet!

Why a tourniquet?

The modern battlefield and mass shootings have shown that the risk of having to amputate a limb because a tourniquet was applied is not really an issue, while blood loss is among the most common reason for the loss of life. This has changed the approach to tourniquets and instead of the last option to treat limbic hemorrhage, they are now pretty much the first thing you do. There's not an IFAK on the market today which doesn't include a CAT.

CAT or SOFTT-W?

Both of these tourniquets are superb, but there are some subtle differences. The CAT is a bit easier to use one-handed and lighter (65 g / 2.29 oz). The SOFTT-W is extremely durable and can be easily buckled on or off. It's also a bit heavier (110 g / 3.88 oz) but folds into a flatter package for easy carry.

The CAT is often preferred for personal use as a part of an IFAK whilst the SOFTT-W is better suited for CLS and medic use. Nevertheless, both work perfectly in any role and the most important factor in choosing a tourniquet is probably personal preference!

Palveluksen aikana tuli tutuksi CAT ja SOF-T, vanhemmat mallit tosin, terveisin 2/18. Jokaisen taistelijan kiristyssiteeksi jaettu SOF-T oli hirvittävä käyttää, sitä sai runnoa voimalla, niin ettei mahtunut kaksi sormea väliin ja kun sen vihdoin sai kiinni, olisi taistelupari vuotanut todennäköisesti kuiviin. Myös CATin fiksu lukitussysteemi on järkevämpi, kuin alkuperäisen SOF-T:n kolmio. Näistä henkilökohtaisesti pidän enemmän CATista: se on vaivattomampi kiinnittää ja velcro on ehdottomasti liukulukittuvaa solkea parempi vaihtoehto.

Tarra on lörppö ja kiinnittyy helposti itseensä, mutta se ei vie kuin pari sekunttia pois kokonaissuorituksesta jos side on valmisteltu oikein.
Tämän kun lätkäisee raajaan ja kiristää niin ei muuten löysty.
Toista arvostelua kompaten jos meinaa hajota vika on todennäköisesti käyttäjässä. Hommaa kaksi, toinen treeniin ja toinen oikeaan käyttöön.

Please note; these tourniquets are not cheap and you can find such items much cheaper on EBay or wherever. The cheaper ones are very likely counterfeits; I learned this the hard way. If you need a tourniquet you really *need* a tourniquet; do not trust your life, or someone else's, to a cheap knock-off masquerading as the real thing. An EBay special may cost less but it almost certainly is not a true bargain.
