Features
In West Germany, Cold War became a tad warmer when you wrapped this huge blanket around yourself. People weren’t cheap when it came to blankets on the better side of the Wall. The ones we checked seemed to be from 1962-66, and from several manufacturers. Therefore the details can vary to some extent. The tag on the blanket says that they are 200 x 210 cm (79” x 83”), but in truth they are 200 x 200 cm (79” x 79”) plus/minus a couple of centimeters (inch or two). I guess, it isn’t precision engineering in bundesmeasurements. In any case, you can fit a person of any size inside these.
These are in greenish in color, some greener and some more brown. They feature the text “Bundeseigentum”, which means the property of the army, either in brownish-burgundy or gray. There can also be other colors and varieties, so think of these a bit like collectable cards. Buy a bunch and trick your friends into getting the more common ones. The wool content is not given but they feel quite woolsome. The weight is around 2.7 - 2.9 kg (5.9-6.4 lbs). These are not for ultralight hikers but for megaheavy ones.
Use
Why would I buy this heavy and bulky monstrosity might some heretic wonder? Well, because they are bloody awesome! You can use them as a blanket at home or as a beautiful wall hanging. Or make yourself an epic blanket coat out of these. You could also take it in the wilderness, curl inside it and dream of detente.
Care
Wool doesn't require much washing. If the blanket gets soiled, it's best to spot clean it with soap and mild water. If it gets absolutely covered in vomit or something, you can probably try to machine wash it in 30 degrees Celsius. Use wool care products and lanoline to make this fresh and "alive". Hang dry. For basic care just airing out and brushing the blanket is enough. Ahhh, wool.
Condition
Unissued West-German military surplus. Clean, intact and fantabulous. These are in incredibly good condition but they do have that slight smell of surplus. But that is simply the smell of freedom. You can air it out if you want.

Suosittelen.

I tried to find such blanket for years - you can't buy it anymore anywhere. It is original one - nothing like china products. Similar quality products made in EU cost several hundreds now days and you could barely find it. The blanket is awesome. It is warm, quite soft and quite rigid together, no any pile leftovers. Made 60 years ago and will serve next 60 in the right hands.
Of course it smells a bit in the beginning. Just use it - don't wash it. The smell goes away with time.
It is one time purchase for the whole life. Don't be a fool - just buy it if you see it anywhere.

I am giving this one a solid five stars - beautiful heirloom quality heavy wool blanket, excellent condition, and fast cheap shipping. Thanks Varusteleka, now go and find more of this awesome stuff!
PS - Another load of these just appeared today, so I nabbed another one. There is a Canadian wool cleaner and conditioner called Eucalan (Amazon has it) that I highly recommend. Use about an ounce of Eucalan in a bathtub of cool to lukewarm water. Add your blanket and gently hand surgitate it around. Leave the blanket in there for ten to fifteen minutes, and gently hang the blanket over a rail or fence to dry (wool dries quickly), turning it every half hour or so. Do not rinse the blanket, Eucalan leaves lanolin behind. When dry, your blanket will be even thicker and softer than it was before. It also gets rid of that surplus smell, so that might be good or bad for you.

A good product is the Swiss Army blanket~ Yes, you have all seen it. The Swiss Army blanket is very solid and smells like wool. The disadvantage of the Swiss Army blanket is that it is too small. Two pieces need to be sewn together to be like this bw army blanket. big enough

Edit: I bought a second one, this one has a different manufacturer, but clearly the Germans have a high level of quality control because it is identical in size, weight, and quality. Get one now while they're still in stock
