Yes, it have a significant amount of surface rust on it. See the top box in the photo with the multiple ammo boxes to get a general idea. There is a date of 2/65 on it. If it is that old and seen heavy use, then the amount of rust is to be expected. I will make it a project to restore it - remove the rust and repaint it. I do like the design and how it opens. Ammo cans: like tupperware but for guys.

It's beat up and slightly rusty like any other surplus can. Easier to open than the U.S. cans. After a good sanding it's a good can.
