A British-issue FR "field shirt" for AFV crews. Also known as the Norgie, though these are thinner than usual and not terry-looped on the inside. Awesome baselayer and available in large sizes!
As opposed to usual Norgies, these aren't thick at all and the shirt weighs just 330 g (11.6 oz) in size Large. A tall turtleneck with a zipper allows you to retain or dump heat as necessary and shields from the sun.
Compared to the strikingly similar-looking Combat Undershirt, these have a normal extension in the back of the hem (instead of a very long ducktail) and a regular sleeve length without thumb loops.
The garment is fire-retardant so you won't become a human torch at the first crackle of your fireplace or campfire. The exact material is not stated on the labels but commonly these kinds of shirts are made mostly of aramid and FR-viscose with a smaller percentage of FR-polyester.
Size info
The fit is loose and the material is stretchy so the shirt will be a bit loose at the recommended size: if you're larger than specified, don't worry! The table below has measurements of the garment itself laid flat and unstretched on a table. The chest width is measured from armpit to armpit.
Size | Chest Width | Sleeve Length | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
Large | 56 cm | 22.1" | 61 cm | 24.0" |
X-Large | 58 cm | 22.8"/td> | 65 cm | 25.6" |
2X-Large | 60 cm | 23.6" | 67 cm | 26.4" |
British surplus
Unissued, most of these are in factory plastics from the British manufacturer Cooneen, Watts & Stone.
