The Blizzard EMS Blanket is designed to prevent and treat hypothermia and intended for emergency medical technicians. The blanket has a self-adhesive edge to help retain body heat. It's also fully water- and windproof.
Considering its performance the EMS blanket is incredibly light and packs small, but it's not really something to put in your small IFAK. In the military these would be platoon equipment, civilians should consider keeping one in their First Aid bag in the car or at the summer cottage.
Under the protective outer shell are some very interesting details. The material has layers with small air pockets in between to trap air and provide insulation. Further, the blanket is metal-lined to reflect body heat back, and interwoven elastics hug it close to further prevent heat loss.
