Austrian Bundesheer Gore-Tex (or Sympatex!) jacket. Cut very much like the US M65 field jacket, but is water- and windproof. An excellent fall/winter jacket with practical features and nice nonchalant colour scheme. In unissued condition!
- A sturdy shell jacket with good pockets and a hood
- Gore-Tex or Sympatex membrane
- Generous cut widthwise: if you're between two sizes and want the coat for casual use, the smaller might be better.
Zipper & snap closure, four front pockets with snap closure, a stow-away hood and generous cut, these are meant as the top layer. The membrane is squeezed between two outer layers. Other than that, these don't have any lining whatsoever. However these are roomy; it's up to the user to dress accordingly.
These usually have a velcro name tag base on the chest and Bundesheer logo on the arm, or traces of one.
Material
The composition of the outer fabric varies, it can be either 50/50% polycotton, 65/35% polycotton or 100% polyester. The membrane is either Gore-Tex or Sympatex, these are essentially the same. 100% polyester lining.
Size info
First the easy size, then the user's recommended height and chest circumference in centimetres or inches. These are a tad oversized to accommodate stuff underneath.
The Austrian size system is explained in detail on our Austrian jacket size chart page. If you are already familiar with Austrian sizing and want to know how we came up with the easy sizes, below is our logic as a chart. All possible sizes in the chart are not manufactured of course.

X-Small | 80-84 I-II | 80-84 III-IV | 80-84 V-VI | 80-84 VII-VIII |

X-Large | 112-116 I-II | 112-116 III-IV | 112-116 V-VI | 112-116 VII-VIII |
2X-Large | 120-124 I-II | 120-124 III-IV | 120-124 V-VI | 120-124 VII-VIII |

Austrian surplus
Functional, neutral, clean. That's what the Austrian Bundesheer gear is made of. Our Austrian surplus revolves mostly around the Anzug 75 and Anzug 03 clothing systems, but who knows, maybe the "Tarnanzug Neu" will make it's appearance if the Austrians decide to clear the stocks in the future. Get your OD gear while the stocks last.
After the Second World War the Austrian soldier looked like a weird mixture of Allies and Germans; the M1 style helmet and general profile really tried to bring that NATO vibe up, but a lot of the gear and even the dotted camouflage pattern looked surprisingly much like WW2 German issue. In the 70s they took a major leap towards NATO with the introduction of the all-green Anzug 75 clothing and equipment system closely inspired by the American equivalents, finally letting go of the "old stuff". The Anzug 03 brought the game up to date with some changes in effort to modernize the whole thing. Now the Bundesheer is again moving over to camouflage.

I bought one from the used surplus listing, and was incredibly lucky and recieved an unissued one. Having the 100% guarantee of receiving an unissued one makes this an incredible deal, worth every penny.
EDIT: Loved my first one so much I bought another, this time a size down for more of a fashion friendly fit with less layering. Absolutely incredible quality for the price. Both times I got 50/50 cotton/polyester with goretex, could not be happier.

Edit: I'm 6'3 and 180lb, the Medium Regular is what I wear.

I gave that jacket away and bought one for my size, I love it.
Buy one of these now, they are amazing. Hell, buy two.
I'm 6'1" 190 lb. Med-long is great.

Modeled after the American M65 jacket but of a much better quality, with a membrane to boot!
The jacket was pristine except for a shiny spot where the fabric over a snap button had been rubbed or pressed in storage. I am sure that would buff right out.
I got a 50/50 poly cotton jacket and here are some details not covered in the product description:
Main zipper with double sliders installed on the left hand side, European style.
The sleeve cuff straps are elasticized with snap buttons, with the straps retracting back into their respective tunnels when released: nothing to dangle here.
No Velcro on this jacket other than the loop field on the right chest for a name tag.
The backs of the shoulders have a ‘bi-swing’ construction to allow ease of movement.
The insides of the sleeve cuffs and hem have a 7cm wide strip of synthetic material to prevent water from wicking up the sleeves and body of the jacket.
The larger lower front pockets are lined(!) Compared this to any M65 jacket or British smock.
Two inside pockets secured with zippers.
No provision for any button-in liners — wear a sweater if you need to.
I was able to carefully remove the patch sewn onto the left sleeve (no disrespect to the patch or what it represents). I suggest you use a seam ripper to break every few stitches on the top of the patch, and then pull to break the the intervening stitches. I don’t suggest inserting the seam ripper between the patch and the fabric of the sleeve in case you poke the fabric, even though it’s easier to see the thread below the patch.
I had thought I would need give the jacket a spritz with a waterproof spray. But I tested it by sticking sleeve under a tap and the water just rolled off the fabric. The original factory treatment is still good.
Yes, you should get one too if they have one in your size.

My father got version from 2000 with Gore-Tex. I got 2001 version with Sympatex. Both 50%/50% polycotton, new, with tags. Mint condition, as described. There are some minor differences between these two versions but general quality, design, look and feel are the same. You can't go wrong with any of them!
"Medium-Regular" size would be a little bit too short for me (mostly in arms length) because I am going to use this jacket over my thick wool jackets, like M39 Swedish uniform to protect them from heavy rains (I hate umbrellas).
General fit of this jacket is great! It looks fantastic! Shoulders fits perfectly. There is also enough room in armpit area. Waist cord adjustment is perfectly on my waist line. Generally, I am very impressed by design and sizing system. This jacket is not only practical but also stylish! I love combination of these two attributes in one garment. Probably only "classical" military outfits like this one can do both at the same time! Colour is superb: brownish green - very unique and blends nicely with everything.
To sum it up: it was truly bargain to got such quality gear for such money!
PS
When I was writing this review "Small & Medium-Regular" sizes are already gone, but if you like jackets which can reach almost half of your thigh length (like very short coat) and help to protect your family jewels and butt from the elements - get longer version! You won't regret it!

Palautuksen syy on kuitenkin hupun pienuus.
