Don’t you just hate it when the cold wind and rain smack you on the dome but you don’t want to wear a baseball cap as that would make you look too casual? Well, we got the thing for you: a used Austrian armed forces beret. This is probably a one-time type of deal - no restocks! So act fast!
Features
The Austrians have a knack for stealing the right things from their northern neighbors and this one is no exception: they’re most likely manufactured in the same factory as the Bundeswehr ones. We only managed to get a fairly small batch of these. Most of them are green, some are blue and about 20% black as your annoying neighbor’s heart. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Let’s recap what the beret is: It’s a round hat made mostly of wool but with a black leather trim. Most armed forces have their own berets and their own styles to wear them. The materials used are wool, leather, as well as cotton for the lining. The lining on some items is 50/50 cotton and polyester. All the berets have either a leather or a cardboard support part for the cap badge.
Size info
The berets conform to the European size system, which is the circumference of the head in centimeters. Just measure your head about one centimeter above your ears. We’ve added the US size in brackets after it. It’s better to take one size too big than too small.
Condition
Used but not abused Austrian military surplus. All of these show signs of use. The wool has lint, and the lining is often stained from heavy use. You shouldn’t really wash these as a well-worn beret is a sign of pride and professionalism.
Austrian surplus
Functional, neutral, clean. That's what the Austrian Bundesheer gear is made of. Our Austrian surplus revolves mostly around the Anzug 75 and Anzug 03 clothing systems, but who knows, maybe the "Tarnanzug Neu" will make it's appearance if the Austrians decide to clear the stocks in the future. Get your OD gear while the stocks last.
After the Second World War the Austrian soldier looked like a weird mixture of Allies and Germans; the M1 style helmet and general profile really tried to bring that NATO vibe up, but a lot of the gear and even the dotted camouflage pattern looked surprisingly much like WW2 German issue. In the 70s they took a major leap towards NATO with the introduction of the all-green Anzug 75 clothing and equipment system closely inspired by the American equivalents, finally letting go of the "old stuff". The Anzug 03 brought the game up to date with some changes in effort to modernize the whole thing. Now the Bundesheer is again moving over to camouflage.
