Using Snap Caps
Almost without exception, modern firearms handle dry fire training without issues. If a firearm is older or the manual so states, using snap caps is a good way to reduce wear and stress on a firearm.
With rimfire firearms, it is highly recommended to use snap caps in order to avoid firing pin striking against chamber edge.
Snap caps are good training aids in various drills. By loading the snap cap into the magazine among real ammo, will set up a typical malfunction clearing scenario. In many practical shotgun disciplines, loading the magazine is a major factor. Training loading with good quality snap caps will definitely translate into better performance at the range.
