Särmä UDT shorts
Do regular shorts restrict your freedom too much? Here’s a solution that fits like a fist in the eye as we say in Finland. To commemorate Varusteleka’s 20th anniversary, we made almost indecently short shorts, because why not? These were inspired by the iconic leg “coverings” of the Navy Seal Underwater Demolition Teams but in a different color scheme and materials. If you long to be among the shorts elite, act now because we probably won’t make more of these.

- Tigerstripe camo pattern
- Buttoned fly
- 65/35% recycled polyester/organic cotton
- Waist adjustment with a D ring drawcord, no belt loops
- Open back pocket
History
During WWII, the US Navy issued the almost disturbingly short cotton shorts to all underwater demolition team members. The shorts varied a bit in texture and color depending on the manufacturer. These were only issued to Frogmen, so no other navy folks got them, which most likely caused a lot of envy and heart ache. And decades after decades, these iconic shorts are still issued to SEAL candidates.
Features
These are very short shorts, so action star moves work like a charm. However, if you are well endowed, you might wanna wear some sort of “well-containing” underwear with these. Or only swim in very cold water. Just like their inspiration, these don’t have any unnecessary crap features. Just a single open back pocket and a simple waist adjustment with D rings. The buttoned fly is a tad slower to use than a zipper but also impossible to annihilate permanently.
Materials
Made from 65% recycled polyester and 35% organic cotton (plain weave 210 g/m2). The same stuff as our Särmä Tigerstripe cargo pants. Dense but soft fabric that is very pleasant to wear. Some color may transfer from the product before the first wash.Wash at 30 °C (86 °F).

Make no mistake, these will be the shortest pair of shorts you will ever own. Should they be any shorter they would no longer be classified as shorts but rather some other piece of clothing. Probably a belt.
They fit like a glove and contains just about the same amount of cloth, which is made up by a sturdy polycotton mix and does not stretch or flex in any way. Should you use them to go swimming they dry fairly quickly. Just be mindful of your manparts when wearing them without underpants or you might end up with a lawsuit on your hands.
All in all a spectacular pice of kit. Makes you want to ride patrol boats in South East Asian river deltas and fire machineguns from the hip. Yes. I scare myself sometimes.

fabric has zero flex/give and the leg holes are small.
I got a 2x and it fit my waist, but once i pulled them up onto my thighs, I almost could not get them off again.
maybe size-up if you are buying a pair of these?
