Särmä Light Wool Check Shirt
Checked shirts are awesome and consistently stylish no matter what the current fashion trend might be. When a thick flannel shirt is too much for the weather, choose this lightweight option instead. Oh, we picked 100% wool as the material and added Canadian-style bar buttons and gusseted pits as the final touches.

In the modern days, many garments have become cheap (or not even that cheap) look-alikes of the real thing that used to be made of proper materials. Here's a shot at fixing the problem with a shirt you might choose to wear on special occasions, but if you get accustomed to the higher standard, you'll wear it every day to whatever you do.
- A lightweight button-down shirt with check squares
- Fabric: 100% wool
- The whole shirt weighs just 285 g / 10.1 oz (Size Medium)
- Made in Lithuania, EU
The cut is classic and the shirt has simple chest pockets with flaps, a stand-up collar, and adjustable sleeve cuffs. In essence, a timeless design fit for work, outdoors, and pleasure, and if you get wet in the rain, this will still keep you warmer than a cotton shirt. We added gussets to the pits to improve mobility without adding any bagginess.
Material and care
The fabric is 100% wool, weighs 180 g/m2 / 5.3 oz, very densely woven with a wee bit of stretch. Wash at 30 degrees Celsius (86 F) with a wool cycle, and hang dry. Usually just brushing off dirt and airing the shirt out is enough. The use of wool care products is recommended but not mandatory.
Sizing
We have listed first the easy size, then the user's recommended measurements: user height/chest circumference. These are fitted with a bit of a slim waist for sharper looks.
In the charts below are the actual measurements of the shirt laid flat: widths at the chest (pit-pit), waist, and hem, back length from the base of the collar to the hem, and sleeve length from the shoulder seam including the cuff.

On the first try I found the shirt to be a bit short, but since then I have found the length to be just right (188cm, 84kg, Large Long). The length is just so that it doesn't interfere with disposing your waste liquids while standing (as god intended). Maybe the lowest button could be a bit lower, it currently sits a bit above the belt line. So if you want to make sure that no one can enjoy your navel you have to tie your belt high. I don't mind navel gazers, so it's all good!
At first the material was a bit stiff but loosened up after washing, even became a bit softer. I used a wool detergent with lanolin.
I might start using the shirt for more strenuous activities soon, as I think it would be great for hiking and backpacking.
March 16: so I took the shirt out for a spin a week ago and washed it today. It had endured a day of intense labor in hot and sun-intense conditions. It was rather hard to get out all the salt stains with my gentle wool detergent, but applying detergent directly to the stains worked. I had to use way more detergent than usual though.
It was awesome to be able to open some buttons to increase air flow for ventilation. The shirt's drying right now, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the warning about it being short: I've compared the size charts for this and for the Sarma wool flannel shirt I already own: according to the size charts, that in Medium Regular size has the same centre back length as this one in Large Long size! I was thinking of ordering this in Large Regular, but am now thinking of buying it in Large Long instead, even though I'm only 1.78m/5'10".
It is 180g/m2. This shirt was made lighter and not intended to be worn crawling and dashing balls deep in mud, so it's 100% wool.
