If you drive for a living or consider yourself a responsible motorist, you should have a strap cutter within arm's reach at all times. You will avoid harm's way, of course, but people who spend a lot of time on the road are likely to be first responders when others are in trouble.

Pro Tip: Warehouse workers find this a handy and safe tool for cutting straps off cargo pallets and wholesale boxes. Also recommended to kite surfers.

Cutter and sheath

The Gerber cutter is made from a single piece of 3 mm steel with a rubber-coated handle. It's fairly light and tiny, and a large cut-out serves as a finger-hole to keep the tool in control even with gloves on. The pommel has a lanyard hole and a glass breaker tip - which is often necessary in the same situations where you'd cut a seatbelt.

The sheath has a MALICE clip for attaching to MOLLE/PALS webbing or just a belt (up to 50 mm / 2" wide). In the modern world of micro-aggressions, it's nice to notice that it's symmetrical to serve southpaws as well.

Also supplied is something Gerber calls a "belt clip", but it seems to work best with regular 25 mm (1") webbing.

Overall length: 103 mm (4")

I do NOT own the product. HOWEVER:
A neighbor lady who we've known a long time recently got her car back from mechanic, then went on and took someone to school, was driving home after another errand and the car's electronics went crazy. Speedometer gauge was reading impossible numbers, engine barely ran. She pulled over on road and called her friend Was talking to him, said "doors are electrically locked and won't unlock. Electric windows won't roll down". Then, "there is smoke coming out of car!" He told her to call 911 (USA all purpose emergency #) and started to drive to where she was. Car was fully on fire before friend or emergency services crew could get there. SHE DIED, VERY BADLY. https://www.newsweek.com/woman-died-trapped-burning-suv-after-vehicle-malfunction-1774291
Get a WINDOW GLASS BREAKER TOO. Ideally, one tool that does BOTH.

Everyone in our family now has one, zip tied to the turn signal lever or the rearview mirror:
