Wear the HM71R on your head to point your light where you look. While doing things like industrial maintenance, search and rescue, or guard duties, you might need the full power of the lamp at your disposal. When you have to do close proximity stuff, the 5 lumen floodlight is perfect for reading tasks, and the neutral color-optimized light (CRI=90) ensures better color rendering. For example, you might want to be sure of the colors when doing things with electrical wiring.

You can also disconnect the lamp from the head mount quick and easy. The chest pocket of your jacket or shirt will do when you want to clip the light onto yourself. And when the headlamp is in your bag or pocket, it won't turn on by itself thanks to an electronic lock system.

This lamp only has white light illumination – if you need a red light for your purposes, check out the Fenix HM61R V2.0 headlamp!

Simple guide to operation

The power button can be easily used even with your gloves on:

  • Turning the spotlight on requires a roughly one second deliberate press
  • When on, tapping on the power button cycles through various brightness settings within your selected light – a press-and-hold changes from spotlight to floodlight
  • When the lamp is off, a double tap will turn the floodlight on
  • A three second press on the button engages or disengages the lock when the lamp is off
    • This will be signaled by a flashing floodlight
    • The floodlight will also flash if the button is pressed while the lock is on
    • The lock can’t be engaged while the lamp is on – the lamp can only be locked while in off position
  • A roughly one second deliberate press will turn the lamp off regardless of current mode
  • While the lamp is off, tap on the power button once, and the battery level will be indicated by a LED light through the power button (see battery level table further below)

A memory circuit recalls the previous spotlight brightness setting excluding the Turbo setting – the light will turn on at the High setting. The double tap will turn the floodlight on at the lowest setting.
