How about a near-unused, comfy, and sharp-fitting woolen pullover that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg? We got a treasure trove of woolen goodness from Austria. They conform to the basic principles of the military pullover but with a few twists and a gray color that goes with almost anything.
The pullover features reinforcements on the shoulders and elbows for maximum durability, with button-closed epaulets on the shoulders. The material is nice and light. What makes this one stand out from the rest is the rib-stitched hemline and the v-neck opening on the neck. The v-neck works great with a collared shirt underneath.
Material and care
The pullover is 50% virgin wool and 50% synthetic fibers. Take heed that the wool is not actually from virgins, so don’t go blaming us if your summoning goes awry. The material is named so because the wool is from the lamb's first shave and is very soft and all kinds of nice. You don’t usually need to wash woolen clothes, but if you have to, it is best to do it at 30 degrees Celsius (86 F) using a wool cycle. You can use wool care products also.
Size info
The Austrian size number is followed by a recommended user's chest circumference. You get a pretty nice fit if you go with your chest size, and you can fit a collared shirt underneath. It is not an ultra-slim hipster fit, nor is it an army tent. Because these come in the “Soldier” cut, the pullover might bulge in the midriff department if your belly circumference is considerably bigger than the chest.
There are no length groups but the smaller sizes are shorter and the larger ones are longer.
Note that some of the garment size tags are faulty. For example, size 4/104 has a tag that says 4/100. The first size number and our suggested user's chest circumference are accurate, and you should stick to them. Sizes 3/100 and 5/108 seem to have the correct tags, all the others have labels where the latter number is 100, probably due to a copy-paste error.
If you are interested in the garment's measurements, take a look at the table below.
Size | Chest width | Back length* | Sleeve length** |
---|---|---|---|
3 | 53 cm | 68 cm | 63 cm |
4 | 55 cm | 70 cm | 65 cm |
5 | 57 cm | 72 cm | 67 cm |
6 | 59 cm | 74 cm | 69 cm |
7 | 61 cm | 76 cm | 71 cm |
*Measured from the topmost part of the neckline to the lowest part of the hem.
**Measured from the shoulder stitch to the end of the sleeve.

Functional, neutral, clean. That's what the Austrian Bundesheer gear is made of. Our Austrian surplus revolves mostly around the Anzug 75 and Anzug 03 clothing systems, but who knows, maybe the "Tarnanzug Neu" will make it's appearance if the Austrians decide to clear the stocks in the future. Get your OD gear while the stocks last.
After the Second World War the Austrian soldier looked like a weird mixture of Allies and Germans; the M1 style helmet and general profile really tried to bring that NATO vibe up, but a lot of the gear and even the dotted camouflage pattern looked surprisingly much like WW2 German issue. In the 70s they took a major leap towards NATO with the introduction of the all-green Anzug 75 clothing and equipment system closely inspired by the American equivalents, finally letting go of the "old stuff". The Anzug 03 brought the game up to date with some changes in effort to modernize the whole thing. Now the Bundesheer is again moving over to camouflage.

Size-wise going with the recommended chest will give you some breathing room to layer underneath, but I found the shoulders to be very wide in my recommended size 7 (116cm chest). I ended up going for size 5 (108cm) instead and it's just perfectly snug, not overly tight at all, the knit is very accomodating. Shoulder-wise I could even have gone to a size 4, but then I think it would have gotten tight around the chest.
If in doubt about sizing, use the live chat button on the right, the crew is extremely helpful :-)

As for the garment, the wool is scratchy. You can see through the garment itself because of how thin it is. It is not for Autumn or Winter.
Regardless of these, it is a perfectly fine pullover.
