"Askare" is Finnish for "task" or "chore". This pack was originally designed for sniper teams to carry various shooter/spotter-related equipment. However, it has proven to be a great asset for all sorts of tasks within and beyond the military. The large seven-liter capacity plus numerous external attachment options make this a very versatile general-purpose bag.

Internally, the bag features a number of options for organizing your gear: elastic webbing loops of various sizes, flat compartments, tie-down loops, and a loop surface for attaching hook-backed organizers.

The rear wall has two rows of 50 mm (2") elastic webbing sewn onto it, forming loops of various sizes. The lower row is sewn into two large, ca. 17 cm (6.7") wide, loops (designed for .50 cal Barrett magazines). The upper row is sewn into three smaller, ca. 12 cm (4.7") wide, loops (designed for HK417 magazines). Each end of the bag has one elastic loop for smaller items.

The front wall has two flat compartments, with tie-down loops on top. A 35 x 10 cm (13.8" x 3.9") loop surface on the inside front wall enables you to attach all sorts of hook-backed organizers, etc.

A large, open-ended flat compartment at the back has a removable closed-cell foam pad inside, and it enables you to stow the waist strap away if needed. This compartment can also be used as a huge belt loop if you want to carry the Askare on a regular belt or the hip belt of a backpack.

PALS webbing on the sides allows you to attach small pouches and accessories on the outside. The horizontal webbing on the front can be used to attach small pouches such as Savotta Multitool pouch, Tourniquet pouch, and Zipped GP pouch 2x2, or elastic cord loops. The numerous webbing loops around the sides can be used to attach elastic cord for carrying all kinds of gear on the bottom and front of the bag, tourniquets, ponchos, tarps, whatever.

Carry options

Due to the large size, Askare is best carried on your lower back, just rotate it to your front for easy access. The belt is also long enough for you to carry the bag diagonally on your back like a sling pack. The belt is attached to large triangular wings for stability.

For longer treks with a backpack, you can quick-attach the Askare to your backpack’s side compression straps. To do this, you will need to add suitable buckles (2M PALS-mount or split-bar female buckles) or use G-hooks. No quick-attachment buckles are included with the bag, but you can buy them e.g. from us. You can also quick-attach the Askare to the side of your pack by simply looping the pack's side compression straps through the large webbing loops on the front of the bag.

The belt can be stowed inside the open-ended compartment on the body side of the bag when carried on your pack. Drop your pack, unclip the Askare, dig out the belt, don the ready-packed bag, and you’re ready for work.

It's definitely big, I can fit my 12.9" iPad Pro and other necessaries. The vertical and horizontal dimensions are perfect, depth is the only limitation. Once you load the two front pockets with keys and phone, stick a iPad in, a fews cans of your favourite beverage and space starts to become limited.
I have loaded it up to about 2kg and it doesn't really move on the body .. so great there

I got the M05 Woodland Camo version and the colour scheme is quite pleasing.

Sits very stable on the hips even with a 2-3kg loadout. Had water, food, some electronics, knife and a gun (within a pouch) in there for 10km with no problems.

I imagine the internal organisers would hold a naked gun without problems. The are a couple of webbing spaces on the front face larger than 25mm that nicely hug a Mora sheath. l would highly recommend getting bungee cord and cord locks to add to the bottom and the ends. Especially if you plan on switching from a small backpack to this. The 7L of internal space will run out quickly if you are used to more room. For example you can tightly roll a light layer of clothing to carry it attached to the bottom. (Or a small umbrella.) One end will be for gloves and the other for a hat/scarf. Elastic cordage is key to getting the maximum out of it.

For city use I have added a sling with split bar QR buckles to create a shoulder bag. The abilty to stow away the hip belt is very useful. Carrying a giant fanny pack in public transport or in urban centers is not the look for me.

It is a niche product. If you want to have space for a grocery run or a place to stow a warm fleece this is not the item for you. A LJK 202 is far more versatile and cheaper. But if you know where and when you will be using this one, you will love it.

hip bag 9/10 very comfortable even with some weight. 11 mile backpacking/camping trip (lots of ups and downs) had only small problems at all was very handy to carry things such as maps, bear spay, snack of course. very easy to access everything from the top. great great great hip bag!

Carrying the bag in front : the strap can be a bit difficult to adjust needing you to either have very good mobility behind your back or needing to take it off. Adjusting then putting it back on can be annoying because if you want to carry it tight then you will have little wiggle room to clip the buckles together. Once you have it where you like it it doesn't move much at all. So set it and forget it. dont forget if you are wearing a backpack to put this thang on first :)

Carrying in the back: is very easy to adjust and put on no issues here since adjusting in done in front.

sling bag 7/10 tends to be uncomfortable sometimes around the buckle especially pushing into my collar bone. I like to wear my sling bags when driving short distances and this bag just does not sit right with my seatbelt so I have to take it off sometimes. Otherwise while walking its not that bad and I like the larger space to carry everything!

I always carry a sling bag(murse) everyday for my personal items such as phone, wallet, knife, keys, battery bank, hats, gloves, ect. maybe 2-3lbs of weight for daily use

overall great durable bag that will last a lifetime!
