Swedish tent quarter/cape, surplus

Ohh the Swedes. Their past is not quite as innocent as one would imagine - along with the hefty interest in eugenics they also "just happened" to develop a triangular shelter quarter as fielded by the German Wehrmacht. Four "Zeltbahns" form a pyramid-shaped tent, but can also be used for a multitude of other purposes. Never leave home without it. One-off lot! Heavily used!

Nearly identical to the wartime German Zeltbahn, the Swedish model features the same details: a hole for the head in the center, all sides filled with buttons and corresponding buttonholes. Not likely 1:1 with the German one.

  • The bottom part is 265 cm (about 104") wide
  • Sides about 210 cm (about 84") each
  • Weight about 1,2 kg (2,65 lbs)

The camouflage scheme color palette is apparently from the table of Edvard Munch or some other gloomy artist of the era. The Swedes used this pattern only in the shelter quarters and not much else.

Made of very tough cotton duck, and waterproofed ages ago. We can't promise the proofing is still intact - most likely it isn't.

Genuine army surplus

Proper rough used "Grade 2" condition. These have been tossed around a lot and look the part. However, they are usable. Please note that you should be prepared to sew on a few buttons or repair a hole here or there.

Instructions of usage

Tent

  • For a 4 person tent you need 4 shelter quarters, 4 pole sections and 8 stakes. Erect by first pegging two corners, then erect the pole and peg the rest. Unbutton a corner enough to make a small passage, or alternatively slip in under the edge if you want the authentic experience.
  • The tent can be made bigger by adding more shelter quarters. Of course, then you need more poles & stakes as well. For an 8 man tent, you'll need 8 pole sections and 12 stakes.

Rain cape

  • Stick your head through the slit, button up the front. Done.

I personally already have 4 of these. And they are great! I have used them several times and they do their job very well.
