The king of woodfuel stoves, this thing runs of anything you can stuff inside and just burns so effectively it almost rapes the laws of physics. Just collect twigs and other debris, cram them in, light them up and watch the surprisingly large flame - no need for other fuel sources.

The main advantage on these kind of woodgas stoves is the beauty of their fuel consumption: you don't have to drag along anything else, as the thing burns well enough with nature's own fuel - twigs, branches, whatever. And The Wild Woodgas Stove is the king of these kind of hobo stoves. It's not just a perforated tin can, but a surprisingly elaborate contraption designed to suck every last bit of the heat the burning fuel generates, but also use that heat to generate a "secondary" heat source from oxygen it sucks inside the layered construction, which rises up and ignites on the top.

If that sounded a bit confusing, worry not! Just assemble it, stuff twigs inside and light the whole up and you'll see what we mean - or just watch our video. After you get it going, using damp wood is also possible. The stove works with any pot or cup you can think of. After use, clean the ashes, put the thing back together and stuff it in your pack.

Measurements and weight

  • Packed 13,6 x 6,6 cm, deployed 13,6 x 16,3 cm.
  • Weight 280 g.
  • Made of stainless steel, thickness 0,26 mm.

Pro-Tip: This stove not only saves the trouble of carrying fuel, but you can also ditch washing detergent. By putting some wood ash on your dishes, it reacts to the grease forming crude soap, perfectly good for getting the said dishes clean!

Pro-Tip 2: works with the Czech mess tin, the round one. Just leave the inner pot out and it'll fit in just fine. The Czech pots are available from us whenever we can get them.

Made by British Wild Stoves

Wild Stoves makes probably the best woodfuel stoves around and offers a multitude of models, their size ranging from this to that of small tent stoves. Speaking of tent stoves, they also make those too, along with everything else you could think of when it comes to playing with fire. Their stuff is highly praised among outdoor enthusiasts, and for a reason.

Excellent stove! It runs a big flame for a surprisingly long time using very little wood.

With regards to "Pro-Tip 2": The Czech mess kit is a great carrier for this stove. While the pro-tip suggests removing the inner pot, it works even better with the inner pot left in. It will have much less rattle and you won't have to give up part of your mess kit.

To fit it into the pot, you need to "fold" the stove in the manner shown in the second product picture. Next, lower the upside down mess kit inner pot over the stove. It will fit snuggly when the stove is fully inserted, but it is not difficult to remove. Flip it right side up and fold the pot's handle. It won't quite fully fold over, but as you'll see it's very springy and it won't be a problem. Insert the inner pot / stove into the stove's storage bag.

Put the bag into the mess kit outer pot in the same way you'd insert the inner pot if it was empty. Place the lid on and you are good to go. The inner pot's slightly open and rather springy handle will gently touch the mess kit's lid when you put the lid on. This is a good thing as the contact eliminates rattle. The pot arm supports and the drop-down grate will still rattle as they are not supported within the folded pot. Popping a napkin or paper towel in there should quiet them nicely.

Periaatteessa ihan toimiva laitos mutta tuo taitettava kolmijalka mene helposti jumiin ja käyttö muuttuu hankalaksi. Samalta valmistajalta on käsittääkseni olemassa toisenkinlaisella kolmijalalla varustettuja malleja.
