Red dots are awesome but magnification is also. Why not have both? The Vortex VMX-3T is an effective 3X magnifier that comes with a flip-mount to have it available or locked out of the way as you wish in less than a second.
Compared to low-powered variable optics (LPVO) set to 1x magnification, red dots offer unlimited eye relief and eye box as long as you are looking at the target through the sight. This is very useful when shooting from unorthodox positions.
The Vortex VMX-3T 3X Magnifier can be set to absolute or lower 1/3 co-witness and will work with pretty much any red dot sight - not recommended for use with prism scopes.

* Various sources claim an eye relief of 3.25" or 2.2" for the VMX-3T. Trying our best to verify this without causing a measuring tape-related accident, the latter seems to be more correct with a bit of leeway in both directions. The larger number is roughly the upper limit of an acceptable view through the scope.
Manufactured in China.
Installing instructions
Installing the magnifier is rather simple. First, decide if you want to use the shim and longer screws, or go without the shims and use the shorter screws. Then, decide which way you want the magnifier to flip when it's out of the way and position it on the mount accordingly.
Tighten the screws to 2.3 Nm (20 in/lbs) - it's a fairly low torque value and easy to overdo. Don't ham-fist it, the screws have thread-locker on them to prevent loosening.
Finally, choose a position behind the red dot where the eye relief suits you, slip the recoil lug into a suitable slot on the Picatinny rail, and tighten the mounting nut. The nut has holes for safety wire if you want to be sure - again, don't go crazy with the torque.
