US M51 Fishtail Parka, with liner, reproduction

US M51 Fishtail Parka, with liner, reproduction

90.99 USD

Here's something you don't see too much of nowadays. The M51 "Fishtail" Parka was standard issue in the US Army before the new Gore-Tex stuff. Some might say this is still better suited to certain conditions. These are well made reproductions of the originals.

Tru-Spec M65 field jacket, with liner

Tru-Spec M65 field jacket, with liner

81.99 USD

The classic M65 jacket. Tru-Spec's model is almost as good as the real thing - right down to the water repellent treatment and all.

The classic M65 jacket, original US army surplus! These are the Woodland camo version of the jacket, made since the 80's.

Features:

  • Metal zipper & snap fastener closure, easy and fast to use, looks good.
  • Four large pockets with snap closure. These are so handy that they'll probably end up full of small stuff and you'll have to periodically empty them.
  • High collar with a hood hidden inside. The hood isn't the best possible to be honest, but no-one really uses it and if you need one, it's better than nothing.
  • Lightweight cotton lining.
  • Adjustments in the cuffs, hem, waist and collar - can be tailored to your liking for either neat or scruffy appearance.
  • A separate liner jacket can be attached, but is not included.

The material is 50/50 NyCo, with a water repellent treatment, which however may have worn of in the years of field use these have seen.

Size info

Sizes in the standard US Army system of course. These are a tad oversized as they are meant to be worn over everything. This means that a person who would normally borderline size Medium might just fit in a size Small jacket. The official user's recommended centimetre measurements can be found here.

US army surplus

Used, but still perfectly serviceable. Colours may be a bit faded and some minor repairs may be found. These too are getting a bit scarce, no idea about restock.

Now I didn't purchase one of these from here, but my dad gave me his and I've used it since I was barely into my teens. Damn thing is bombproof as bombproof gets and barely looks different to when I was a little kid. If you can grab one of these bad boys do it.

Fantastic general purpose jacket. I bought one about ten years ago at a surplus store here in Australia, was obviously quite heavily used and there was the faintest hint of a name still written inside the collar, etc. Although the water repellent coating is well and truly gone the thickness of the materal means that your upper body can still stay relatively dry in all but the heaviest of downpours. The hood is pretty awful and mine in particular is not in good condition, but it's better than nothing and on hand when you need it. The cut is roomy but adjustable as needed to keep heat in or layer over other clothing, it's very sturdy, you can button in a liner if you have one - honestly this is just an all-around fantastic piece of kit and really the only jacket I own which I would rate above it is a British Patt '94 combat smock, which is lighter and has far more pocket space, being similar to a hoodless version of the classic Smock, Windproof.

The Americans did it right with this one, and they seem to be a hot ticket fashion item these days too. Far better to get the real deal than splash out on a designer label imitation that won't last long enough to pass down through the family.
