Svala 100% Dry Stretch Mesh Hunt -undershirt, black
Undoubtedly indecent looking, a mesh shirt is just about the best thing you can put next to your skin. Mesh clothing also works during hot weather and high activity levels, as it breathes so well you can literally blow through it.
Mesh clothing works well in just about all temperatures. They keep the next layer off the skin and create air pockets, which insulate you from the cold. The material soaks only 0.1% of its weight in moisture, so despite mesh being effective even when wet, the Svala mesh does one better and transfers moisture.
The mesh feels entirely bearable against the skin and the shoulders have flat pieces, so carrying a rucksack doesn't mean printing a KitKat pattern on your shoulders. The hem is also long enough to actually stay in your pants.
Material and care
Made of 100 % polypropylene with a silver-ionized anti-bacterial treatment. Weighs next to nothing. Wash at 60 degrees Celsius.
Listed are the easy sizes given by the manufacturer, just pick the size you usually wear. These stretch like the German Wehrmacht in Eastern Front, so it's not too precise. The sleeve length is quite generous even for tall people, but do note that a tighter fit means less length.

It looks so weird, but the insulation provided is noticeable as soon as your wear it.
I had to buy another one, because my 78 years old Dad loved mine so much I gave it to him.
Take one size up from the chest measurement given by the manufacturer.
The length of the arms will be a little bit longer (but as it's mesh, it's stretchable and you will barely notice) but the front length will be perfect, and it will be waaaay easier to put on.
It dries quite quickly.
Odor management is ok. It's not merino wool though, so it will smell after a couple of days.
Final note: it isolate very well, but the insulation is gone as soon as there's wind. So do wear a windproof!!!
A good combo is this garnement, a light Merino wool top over it (for odor management) , and a windproof /microfiber Vest or jacket.
Thank you Varusteleka team to bring this Finnish Brand to us at such a price. I prefer it to Brynje.
