History

In the 1980s, the original Spyderco Endura blazed a trail as one of the first lightweight clip-carry folders. It and its smaller counterpart, Spyderco Delica also popularized fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) as a handle material. They settled as Spyderco's top two bestsellers, which isn’t a surprise really. Now in its fourth generation, Endura has also inspired a wide range of variations such as this one.

Blade

This knife features a saber-ground stainless steel blade with an unserrated Plainedge and the Emerson opening feature. The high-quality VG-10 stainless steel comes from Japan. You can also open the knife with both the right and the left hand using the large Spyderco thumb hole. The blade is secured in place by a sturdy back lock mechanism (also known as the lock back and in this case mid-lock) that allows an easy ambidextrous lock release.

Handle

The Spyderco Endura knife features a molded FRN handle with Bi-Directional texturing that keeps the knife firmly in your grip even in wet and slippery conditions. The handle is strengthened with dual skeletonized stainless steel liners. Its four-position pocket clip is set up for the right-handed carry. However, it can be easily configured for a tip-up or tip-down carry on either side of the body. The handle also has a lanyard hole.

Emerson Wave

This version of Endura comes with The Emerson opening feature, invented by the renowned custom knifemaker Ernest Emerson. Knife aficionados have been known to file open a Spyderco thumb hole or two but now you don’t have to because this patented device is licensed for use by Spyderco.

The idea is very simple. The knife has a hook on the spine of the blade. When you pull the knife out of your front pocket, it catches the pocket's edge and opens the knife quickly. You can also remove the knife from the pocket without engaging the opening feature and open it with the thumb hole instead.
