Soviet can opener, surplus

Price 2.99 USD excluding sales tax

The legends tell a tale of the being originally meant for opening metal ammunition containers. However, they work well as standard can and bottle openers despite being of Soviet manufacture. A formidable item for what it is.

The can opener blade is of the free-floating type. It stays "locked" when you fold the whole thing in. Other features include a very brutal looking bottle opener (?). There's also a hole for a lanyard.

Closed length 8 cm / 3", weight 90 grams / 3.2 oz.

Soviet military surplus

Old, used at least once. You should expect some tiny rust spots. Perfectly serviceable though!

Remove Russia

Our old product descriptions include ironic praise of our eastern neighbor and it used to be good fun. Does it piss you off? We understand and agree. However, we won't whitewash the old product descriptions. Instead, we have decided to stop buying Russian products. We sell what we have in stock and that's it.

Haven't actually tested it yet, but out of the bag it's pretty slick. I think the slightly brutal bit at the front of the bottle opener is for old beer cans back when they didn't have a tab (also, it does unholy things to bottle caps when not seated properly).

It was designed by a man that clearly worked for the heavy industry and had little to no experience with things that actual humans would use. It's tough though, you can open a T-72 like a can of peaches with a single hand. The only downside is that the folding edge doesn't fold tightly and makes clinging noises whenever you carry or use it.

Phenomenal piece of over-design. Will open pretty much anything tin-, can- or bottle-like. Comparable in silliness to the Australian FRED. Definitely NOT for the ultra-light camping crowd. If these ever become available again, do yourself a favour and buy one.
