A proper poncho is a very viable substitute for a waterproof jacket, especially so If you need to cut down your load weight or just want to carry less stuff. By swapping your waterproof jacket/suit and tarp for a poncho, you can easily shave off some of your load weight, and best of all, you have a few less bits of gear to look after.
Materials
Upgraded material: The main material is ripstop reinforced 100% polyamide, DWR treated, and PU coated. Waterproof at least up to 10000 mm. We use the same fabric in our Särmä TST Tarps and Backpack Rain Covers.

Along with the new version these are now sewn in Latvia by Sia GPT.

It works fine with a baseball cap
It is possible but not too perfect. However it is much better with a baseball cap than without.

Could only test it dry so far, but it works fine with cap.
I can even fit my wide brimmed hat under it. So I have some more head space ;)
