A word about the history; the Swedish army had a pretty good wool tunic (M39) during the last world war, but updated it by removing the chest pockets and making it overall more... historic in appearance. At the same time they introduced this cotton model for warmer weather. It served to the 90's until the conscript army was disbanded.

About what features the jacket has, it's pretty much all in the pictures (two hem pockets, inside pocket, back pockets, rump strap (!) etc.). However, the fabric is super thick cotton which is made to last forever. It's so thick it actually blocks water when it soaks enough!

Wash in 40 degrees Celsius, or if you're feeling lucky, try 60 degrees. Hang dry.

Size info

Sizes are given in the Swedish EU size system, with these converted in the brackets to user's recommended height and chest circumference in cm. If you use inches, divide the centimeter sizes by 2,54 or use our converter just below the size box.

Real military vintage

Used, and apart from an occasional missing button and sometimes a bit faded fabric, in very good serviceable condition. The collar tabs are not always included, and they are easy to remove if so desired.

Pro tip: Some people might hate the look of the back pockets - the solution is to remove them. If you really have it going, the material can be used for your own purposes.

I had the pleasure of wearing this in the early '90:ies. It really is super thick, tight woven and indestructible. Not very comfortable to wear in the midst of summer. Especially not when combined with a turtle neck field shirt and a body armour. It can be done, however, with the proper combination of fear and sense of duty.

Don't worry if it digs in to your armpits or hinder your movement. This is perfectly normal. It will never strech in any way. If you buy one you will be stuck with it for ever and ever.

HELL YES!

SIZING: I'm tall (185cm) and have a 100 cm chest. But I also have slightly broad shoulders, so I ordered a 152 (instead of waiting for a 150). The jacket I received fits perfectly! I am glad I upsized slightly. The arm length is perfect and the jacket doesn't hinder mobility at all.

CONDITION: My jacket has obviously seen some shit. There are several repairs, as well as a small hole I will need to sew up. The sleeves are also on the verge of fraying at the cuffs. Other than that, the jacket is in okay shape.

Frankly, I'm just happy to have nabbed a "tall" version of this jacket, which is a bit hard to find these days, so I can forgive the condition somewhat. And hell, it is surplus after all.

A really good looking, sturdy jacket. Mine came with some repairs and general wear but I wouldn't want it any other way. You'll have a hard time getting a better jacket for the money.

The rump strap was often removed by officers and reservists, i.e. people whose kit wasn't inspected as often (if you catch my drift).

I have one from the early 60s, still works fine for hunting/nature trips.

Todella paksua puuvillaa. Hinta / laatu-suhde on vähintääkin loistava. Napit kannattanee vaihtaa vaikka ruskeaan tai mustaan, ellei sitten harmaasta satu tykkäämään.

Didn't manage to catch this when the jackets were still fully in my size (curse my freakish wingspan). That said, I like the hard-wearing, no-nonsense look of these, and so got one just a size down in the height category. The sleeves are a tad too short (as I expected), but the rest of the jacket fits well. A little more stylish than the Swedish work jacket, the pockets are well sized. Just above the inside breast pocket, there's a 2-3 inch wide, 4 inch deep pocket that is almost purpose-built for a smartphone. All in all, I am very happy with this jacket. If my size is restocked, I will likely try and be faster off the draw.

If you are from North America (AKA Canada or the good old USA) I would suggest buying a size in height up lest you want to have your arms be exposed whenever you try to move them at any more than a slight angle up from your sides. I got a C50 height size as per my height only to have the sleeves go half way up my arms very similarly to the Swiss kit. The kit is still solid, just made for short underfed Europeans. If you really want to extend the sleeves take off the rear pockets to use as extra material.

Ended up with the womens version (no rear pockets and a lot of spare room for the chest) so I'll be returning mine.

Also has a hole where some insignia was removed (not a huge deal, but of note).

Erittäin kestävä perustakki. Ehkä jopa liian kestävä. Nimittäin yrittäessäni valkaista takkia DIY-värjäystarkoituksiin takki ei vaalennut edes dänkeistä dänkeimmällä raa'alla kloriittivalkaisuaineella, ei pitkässäkään kloriittivesikylvyssä. Tiedä sitten millä takki on kyllästetty. :D
