French FELIN Desert Boots, Surplus

Price 59.99 USD 89.99 USD excluding sales tax

For those hot summer operations, tropical or desert boots have long been the norm in armed forces. Here's a modern take on coyote tan boots adopted as part of the FELIN combat gear system. Don't let the name fool you too much, desert boots are very capable boots for non-desert and non-summer conditions as well, of course depending on where you live.

Lightweight, protective enough, and fast to lace for what they are. A great general pair of comfy boots to put on your feet for most occasions. The lack of membrane means these also dry faster. If you really have to, these can be sprayed with proofing agents to increase the water repellency, but as is they're at least not any worse than your regular pair of sneakers.

Size info

The boots are made to accurate French/European sizes with a roomy last. See the chart below for an accurate conversion.

Addendum July 6th. Based on one sample we recommended everyone to buy a larger size. Turns out we were wrong and didn't check the rest of the sizes before selling a bunch of these. Sorry about that. If you bought the wrong size, returning them for the correct size is free of charge. If you're really bummed out, contact our customer service and we'll try to make you happy.

Materials and construction

No surprises here.

  • Top: Nubuck leather and textile
  • Sole: Vibram
  • Insole: Shock absorber in the heel
  • Sole attachment: Glue

These have nothing that constitutes a membrane, so the boots breathe exceptionally well and dry fast. The sole is medium stiffness, not alpine boots nor combat sneakers.

Care

Brush dry. Air insoles after every use. Treat leather and textile parts with a spray impregnation.

Warranty info

These have no manufacturer's warranty, as the boots are surplus. However, we take care of our customers in any case.

French army surplus

Made by Argueyrolles of France, never issued and in manufacturer's boxes.

It is worth knowing that military surplus boots don’t usually come with insoles. So, get a good pair of insoles at the same time. For example, from us.

Joten näin ensi tuntumalta, antaisin varovaisen suosituksen varauksella koon suhteen. Päivitän tätä sitten joskus, kun varsinaisesta käytöstä on enemmän kokemusta.

Hankin pari numeroa omaa kokoani isommat, muistaen keski-eurooppalaisen mannerlisän vanhojen Haixieni kanssa. Jalaksen FX2-pohjalliset kokoa 43 eivät 45-kokoisen aavikkomaiharin kärjestä paria milliä enempää vajaaksi jää. Pienempiin ei jalka edes mahtuisi. Mukavilta tuntuvat.

Very comfortable, solidly constructed, handsome looking boots. I've been wearing them for two weeks now at my regular size of 43 - the fit is now snugly and perfectly comfortable, but it took a week of wearing them around the house with two pairs of thick socks to get them to expand enough to be comfortable, the problem being that they were too narrow at the flex point for my somewhat but not very wide feet. If they're slightly too snug, don't give up! But do also consider buying a size up if you want them to be roomy. I bought them wanting to wear them in the hot summer with one fairly thin pair of socks.

The insole is hard as a brick. I may replace it with something softer at some point.

They are rather on the heavy side. I expected them to be lightweight, but between my Sarma jump boots that are very light (for their size) and my pretty darn heavy M77 boots, they are much closer to the M77 than the jump boots. Their sole is also more rigid than i expected, being quite more rigid than the M77 and much much much more rigid than the jump boots, which feel like a pair of sneakers in comparison. None of this is bad, it just surprised me.

They're a steal at the price they have. You're getting a completely modern current issue combat boot for about the price of some made-in-China Mil-tec fake leather monster. if I had the dosh to spare I'd buy another pair just for the hell of it.

I am a big fan of military surplus, especially foot-ware. These boots are extremely well crafted. As a reviewer mentioned, out of the box they seem to have a stiff feel in the sole, after about 10km they loosen up nicely. The interior craftsmanship was particularly nice. I have many styles US Army surplus, and UK Military surplus boots designed for tropical to medium cold conditions, these boots fit nicely into the end of that range, covering warm and dry, and are by far one of the nicer boots now in my rack. I do not think they will disappoint anyone who appreciates quality construction, and smart utilitarian looks. My feet are a bit different from one another, and I always fall between a US size 9.5 and 10. I took a chance on the 43 and found it just a tiny bit roomy especially on my smaller foot. After adding a pair of Finnish Military innersoles of 2mm thickness on top the existing innersole, they averaged out nicely to accomadate both feet nicely.
I am very satisfied with these boots and have robbed the bank to purchase 4 pair. When I find something that works, fits, and is nice, I want to be able to extend that experience into the reasonable future. I am also very impressed with the ordering, delivery, and communication process of Varusteleka, truthfully it is more efficient and responsive than many USA based vendors I have done business with. Across the range, a very positive experience, certainly to be repeated. Thanks!

These are nice boots. Fit is perfect, just in process of breaking them in but the quality is great and nice looking also. I may buy another pair.

Sturdy boots, robust! they need a few kilometers of a break-in. the toe space is smaller than for instance in the HAIX desert boot in size 44. a bit too small for me. The boot is made in 2011. you can see that 9 years on the shelf make the glue on the sole for instance a bit cracky, usual for surplus that is a few years old, but still a pity. All in all a bit expensive

A lovely boot, no doubt. Brand new and unissued. They really look fantastic. Don't order if you have wide feet. They are most definitely not roomy. Mine are too small unfortunately even after several weeks of breaking in and I can't wear them any more even with thin socks :(

If you like a stiff boot with a thick sole you won't be disappointed.

Shipping from Ireland to Finland is too expensive to make returning them economical unfortunately. Expensive lesson.

I would recommend to someone with narrow feet. Great quality boot that will last. However mine will last longer than most as they'll be sitting unused in my wardrobe...

Choose wisely folks. Looks aren't everything.
