A similar bread bag has been an essential part of the German soldier's kit for a long time (not today anymore). After WW2 when Germany was divided, the bread bags remained the "priviledge" of mainly the border guards and/or paramilitary organizations, both regular armies ditched them in this form. These are East German.

We suspect these are either Kampfgruppen (uniformed militia) or Zivilverteidigung (disaster relief organization) bags. A quick search revealed no markings, but these certainly are East German in origin.

The bag has about 5 cm belt loops and metal D-rings for attaching the carrying strap, which is not included. Some have a shitty "aftermarket" fixed strap, which can be carefully taken off if necessary. Extreme measures about 30 x 25 x 7 cm.

The colour shades range from brownish gray to bluish gray. We do not differentiate.

Old military surplus

Most are unissued, some have been tossed around a bit. All are in very good shape.

I bought one of these quite some time ago. They're great, I would say that they have no flaw except that the one I got had a very thin and narrow shoulder strap. The one I got was green-gray. The inside has a inner pocket at the back to store papers or similar, I personally store a flat pack of coffee there. Material is sturdy but not too course. I might be wrong, but I believe that greenish ones are from Grenztruppen, blue ones from the Luftstreitskräfte or Volksmarine and the gray ones from Landstreitskräfte/Kampfgruppen.

Believe it or not, these old bags from the DDR are still useful today! I recieved one which was stone gray and came with a rather pitiful green strap (I never use it, may take it off at some point.) but these things are deceptively large! I can easily fit a mess kit, utensils, some Swiss pocket stoves, and food into this puppy with ease, and while the straps to hold it closed aren't the best, they work, just as they should. Probably gonna buy more: they're worth every cent at these prices!

Got mine y- day. Green abd sturdy material. It was out in the balcony, to getting that warehouse smell out of it - needs couple of nights more, lol.
The original shoulder strap is first to go... need to ged good strap instead of that narrow piece of- ok u got the idea... To build this as a daily man -or your gf bag needs some minor changes, for this price u brutalize as u will for your own purposes...
Therer's xtra pocket inside - and that's all folks, build and install all the molle stuff u want to, But in it's origina form does not look anything for bag snatchers wet dream....
Enought room to place my small First response kit in one pocket and other stuff.
Nice surplus in anyway u count it.
