Do you need to evacuate wounded people from the badlands or train that sort of thing, but your budget ain’t big enough for a new hypothermia bag? Buy this surplus bag forgotten in the warehouse, and you’ll save quite a pile of money. It also works as a hangover-enhancing sleeping bag at rock festivals. And you can evacuate drunken morons from the festival area if they accidentally pass out in your tent. These are unused, so there is no surplus blood or guts inside.
Not so technical specs
The bags don’t seem to have any labels about the materials or even the manufacturer, so we unfortunately cannot tell you anything about the technical specs with engineer-like precision. Instead, we’ll give you a few observations. The outer fabric is waterproof/water-resistant, like it usually is on these things. We poured water on one, and it didn’t soak into the fabric. However, it did flow down the fabric and soaked into the copywriter’s pants quite splendidly.
The inner silver-colored fabric helps with thermal insulation very well; at least life got hot and sweaty when you crawled inside and pulled the zipper up. The things one has to do to earn a living.
The materials are thick and tough, made for battlefield conditions. On the sides, you will find six carry loops made from three strong seatbelt-like webbing straps that travel underneath the bag. They will carry even a heavier patient without snapping and dropping the poor bugger in the mud. These are long and wide, so you can fit a smaller cave troll inside very easily.
These aren’t the most modern hypothermia bags on the market anymore, but they will get the job done. However, if you want a lighter one with more technical features, buy, for example, the CVN Arctic Pallas. The price is quite a bit different, too.
Use
As you might deduce from the name, these are made for transporting the wounded or otherwise injured without their body temperature dropping to hypothermia levels, which is a serious threat in these situations.
Since these are a lot cheaper than the modern ones, they are also great for evacuation training. And if you have an annoying boozehound friend who always invites himself to your festival and cottage trips, lend him this as a sleeping bag. He won’t come back.
Condition
Leftover stock from a company that has terminated its business ages ago. So, nobody has leaked any bodily fluids inside. However, they have been stored in cardboard boxes in a warehouse for a long time. When opened, there was a strong warehouse smell inside. However, we tested airing one out, and the smell disappeared. If needed, you can also wipe the surface with a damp cloth and air it out.
