Features

If portability is your thing, this axe gets the job done. Its total weight is less than just the head usually is. Of course, the light weight also means that this isn’t the ideal choice for logging or splitting orc skulls but it isn’t designed for that. So, if you need to do heavier work, get a bigger axe.

The ergonomic polymer handle and the 6.0 mm thick boron steel blade with black ED-coating protect it from the evil elements. The edge protection is made from Swedish vegetable-tanned leather.

Bought one of these a few years ago (not from Varusteleka), and it's a decent hatchet. You're not gonna be able to chop down huge trees, but it'll fell smaller saplings and tree limbs pretty easily. As the description says, it's really light weight so you don't feel it in your pack, but boy you really have to put a lot of force behind it. With the thin cheeks it's not a great splitter, but the handle flares out a bit which helps. The blade steel is resilient and has a kinda scandi grind instead of a convex like I'm used to and works well with the smaller wood like I mentioned. I like the handle shape, but out of the box I found the material to be slippery so I wrapped it with hockey tape which has help up well. The blade guard does the job well but doesn't have a way to hang from a belt. Since both the blade and guard are black, make sure you remember to remove the guard! I didn't and whacked the axe into a stump, splitting the guard. Mora replaced it for free which was great!

Elephant in the room though: the Fiskars X7 costs less money, is a way more versatile axe, and only weighs a bit more. After having this axe for a couple years I went backcountry camping with a buddy - he had a Fiskars, I had a Mora. After that trip I went out and bought the X7 and haven't used this since. It's a cool-looking tool and works okay for being so light but just not as good as the competition.
