If you think the size of multi-tools got out of hand a long time ago, check out the Leatherman Bond. It's light and sleek like the original PST from the '80s, and Leatherman has managed to modernize it a little without ruining the tool. In fact, it's a wee bit lighter!
As is the case with the original PST, the Bond is entirely enclosed in its handles and has no tools that could be opened with the pliers closed. It has a similar aesthetic as the disguised folding submachine gun of the same era. Coincidence?
Each handle is stamped from a single piece of stainless steel sheet with integrated spring tabs to retain the non-locking tools when opened. The action is tight at first but becomes smoother over time with repeated use and a drop of oil into the moving parts certainly doesn't hurt.
Where the PST had exposed edges of the sheet against your hand when using the pliers, the Bond has been improved ergonomically by rolling these edges. This raises the center section of the tool slightly but the practical feel is as compact and sleek as ever.
Fits easily into a pocket of your jeans and can be tethered to a lanyard. Comes with a (Chinese) nylon sheath for ordinary belts. There are two holes for a removable pocket clip but we don't sell them.
Tools
The Bond has the classic selection of tools with a couple of additions. We think it's a bit funny to count the pliers with two grip areas and a side cutter with notches for hard-wire as four (4!) tools but that's the official way so that's what we list as well.
The tools have spring retention to keep them opened but no positive locking. Keep this in mind, especially when turning a tight screw that requires a push as well, or pushing with the knife. The ends of the pliers meet precisely – a detail we appreciate.

Made by Leatherman
To many, Leatherman is synonymous with multi-tools. This is probably because Tim Leatherman made the first multi-tool based on folding pliers in the early '80s and it certainly has helped that Leatherman multi-tools are still made in the US with very high quality.
