Canadian Felt Insoles, Surplus

Price 7.99 USD excluding sales tax

Do you know the feeling when the frost creeps into your feet through those ergonomic hi-tech insoles? Well, nothing comes through these. They are so goddamn thick no amount of cold will sneak in to tickle your toes. Also, if you’ve always wanted to be taller or just have too roomy shoes, these are for you. You should act fast, since insoles like these are usually hard to come by.

Features

This holy grail of winter insoles was originally meant for Canadian Mukluk winter boots. They are made from thick felt, which allows for good airflow, while insulating your feet from the cold ground. If you don’t need your insoles to be 1,5 cm thick, you can probably try cutting them in half with a sharp knife. If successful, this operation will yield two pairs of insoles. If not, you’ll end up with four pieces of crappy felt.

We do not know the material content of the insoles, but wool seems to be a significant component here. They're also not the lightest insoles, as one piece weighs about 48 grams (1.7 oz). Made by Acton.

SIZE INFO

We got these in different sizes. As usual with insoles, you should pick a size that’s too large rather than too small. You can always cut them out to fit your boots. The length of the insoles is shown in millimeters. They've been measured from the absolute rear end to the front.

Unissued surplus

Unissued Canadian military surplus. No moose have been ridden with these on, so there are no funny smells or anything except pure warm felty goodness!

using them as intended, in canadian mukluks, check the german surplusmarket for those (rangerjackoutdoor/bundeswehrundmehr among others) they go for 30-80 euro depending on how much they stink. So a little context about the sizes, size 13 is a size 47, but the original mukluks come with a massive double layered real wool boot liner, iam talking a damn centimeter of layered wool.

Fantastic, put them in boots 3 sizes larger than my feet and combined with double layered wool socks, I will never feel cold again. I also have heels that trouble me, and in general weird feet, and these pad the boots which greatly decreases pain.

These are the cat's meow. I was rocking these in my Canadian army Muk's in the 90s. Your feet will thank you.

Extremely thick and soft and wool. Very fair pricing.

Point of attention; it looks like they are made in British sizes, so for you Freedom people; a size 8 is actually a size 9 US, etc.

I managed to cut mine to a smaller size with little problem. Splitting one in half (they are VERY thick) took a little bit more time, but I managed just fine. Now my M77 boots are nice and soft and warm.

Shame this sort of thing is so rare nowadays. The label is German (so I guess these were exported), says that they are made in Canada and mentions the year 1999. Not sure if that is the year of production, but given it is actuall high quality, it probably is indeed that old (alsmost everything is made to be disposable crap today).

Glad I bought 2 pairs (sorry guys!).

Oh, sweet!

CAN MIL here, these are still issued equipment. the Canadian Mukluk boots are your typical moon boots looking things - they are not at all waterproof so generally not worn until you hit dry cold temperatures. there's also very little ankle support so they suck for any loaded marching over not-so-short distances.

these insoles are actually half of a set! between your feet and the ground, there is the rubber boot, there's a pair of weird mesh insoles, then there's these. I have no idea what the hell the mesh insoles do - I haven't taken any fluid mechanics or heat transfer classes.

it was enthusiastically explained to me by an old surplus-store-running-man that these are the difference between cheap walmart boots and the excellent warmths that are our mukluks. insulation from the ground itself instead of all over the foot, basically.

if you can get your hands on winter-weight canadian socks (white with a red band), they ROCK too. Wool socks your grandma could have made.

I'm very happy to see Canadian surplus on Varusteleka - most canadian Tactical gear is all but obsolete, but a lot of the winter gear is top notch. the base layers are awesome ,the parka is pretty great, the Hoth mittens are also excellent as are the snow pants - though those last ones are made in the trademarked CADPAT TW material so you'll never see it released as surplus! :(

The mess insole allows a place for moisture to condensate rather than the felt absorbing it under extreme conditions and use.
