Again a thick army blanket, this time of French variety. Cheap, strong and proper army surplus. Available again after a long break!

Measurements roughly 210 x 160 cm, might vary a bit from blanket to blanket. We will not rummage through the blanket piles to find one "as big as possible". A human being will fit under every specimen.

Material and care

We know these contain an amount of wool, but no idea how much. Maybe at least half? Wash in 30 degrees if you really have to. Use of wool care products doesn't hurt,

Old French surplus

In used but OK serviceable shape. We suggest airing out before use, who knows how long these have been stored. Also, as these are army surplus, they might have all kinds of markings and embroidered numbers on them. If this bothers you, tough titties.

I've bought one of these from a fellow French person.
It was from the Algerian war era in the late 50's.
I have used it as my main blanket in Lisbon, where temperatures never fall under 5°C in winter, but since for some reason no accomodation has a god damn heater (I mean none), you basically don't get much higher temperatures indoors. Comfortable nights though.
Note that I did need to have a sheet underneath to basically prevent my skin from being rubbed off my bones.

Mine was a bit under 2m x 1.5m large, pretty generous cut for average-sized people like me.
Quite heavy and thick, coarse as hell. Even after all these years, the color is the same dark green you may find on a classic pool table rug.
Mine had a couple numbers embroided in golden thread.
The fabric is a blend of wool and chlorofibers, which was a fabric invented in France and made from PVC up until the 80's I think. Good as wool but flammable.
The tag did not specify the wool content, however I did read on French army surplus websites it was 70% wool. I guess it was likely to change depending on the time period and factory, but there is enough wool in there still.
Too bulky and heavy to be carried around though, so much so I had to leave it in my room in Lisbon.
Definitly what you want as a quilt in a cabin or camper.

Thick and warm. Made of wool and chlorofiber (as stated on the label) with no indication on the mix ratio.
According to touch feeling, wool seems to be the major part.
The one received is like new, clean and ready to use.
Perfect for all kind of outdoor activities.

I expected it to be more lightweight, so my idea of using it when backpacking is NO GO.

However it's a really good blanket, which I used last night. It is coarse, sure.. but at the same time it keeps my body warm and my feet can finally breathe. There was no funky smell and I didn't need to air it before the use.
