BW Pocket Knife with Cork Screw, Surplus

Price 19.99 USD excluding sales tax

What can you trust anymore when the Swiss army knife is actually the German army knife? And in olive green. If you prefer a simple SAK type folder instead of modern multipliers and want something more subdued than red handle plates, this might fit the bill.

The manufacturer may vary. In some cases, you'll see known brands like Victorinox, but we haven't sorted these by all the various contractors. These were all issued by Bundeswehr so they're good.

  • Knife 75 mm (3")
  • Saw 60 mm (2.4")
  • Bottle opener
  • Cork screw
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Awl
  • Lanyard cord hole
  • Length when closed 107 mm (c. 4.2”) , the width 25 mm (1"), thickness 15 mm (0.6")

Features

Bundeswehr has in their great wisdom defined the needs of the German soldier and developed the perfect tool for them. This knife has four foldable tools, one of which features three separate tools. They don’t have a locking mechanism but they are not flimsy. With just the basic features, this one isn’t too bulky when carried and is nice to handle.

When looking at these tools, it seems that the everyday tasks of German soldiers include beer and wine drinking in addition to whittling, sawing, screwing, and repairing leather gear. This makes these knives quite handy in civilian use as well.

All the metal parts are made of stainless steel, the handles of durable olive green plastic.

German Army Surplus

These knives are used but all in perfectly usable condition. The tools might require some cleaning and oiling, and the knife some sharpening.

Löyty yllätäen lekan BW keikkalaukun taskusta joskus vuosia vuosia sitten.
Sahanterässä on suoja mukana. Victooria on terä. Jos naarmut kertoisivat.

It’s a really nice knife since it has a sufficient set of tools, and it’s not too bulky when it’s in my pocket.

As far as I can tell the two I ordered were unissued. Razor sharp victorinox blade, very sharp saw and one came with a file on the saw.
And the best part (I don't know why the more modern army pocket knives lack this tools!) this one comes with the ability to open several kinds of alcoholic beverages such as bottles of wine!

Nice knife. Sharpens up to a nice edge. Very sturdy. Mine appeared to have minimal use. There was a small blemish near the tip's ede. I was able to sharpen it off. Heaviest duty saw I ever have seen on a folding pocket knife. Made in Spain by Aritor.

Collectors have pushed prices 2X what Varusteleka is asking. There is a nasty knockoff going @ $16 USD not worth 16 cents. The bottle opener will open cans used like a P 38. It's slow but get the job done. Later models have a stippled rectangle on the saw for striking matches. Mine came near mint WITH the often lost saw guard. I had minimal filing on one blade face easily cleaned up with stones and honing compound. Victorinox ( mine) was the original contractor and soon farmed out parts and tooling to @ 15 European companies ( see idiot collectors above) They are identical except for maker's mark and the Vics have a smaller nail clip. 550 paracord will JUST go through the lanyard hole trimming and melting a pencil point and swearing while working through. Awl is Awesome. I opened (with effort) a Spanish Tempranillo with the corkscrew . Less practical is the sharp spine sparks ferro rods when you drunkenly realize it's cold. is Overall lockup is tight. It has the tools I want, a decent size blade and color coordinates with other V products.

I have never seen a blade this dull, (it actually made me laugh) and of course the previous user did the required "use the blade as a screwdriver" damage to the blade tip. The blade and saw are stiff as H&!! and haven't seen oil since Elvis greased his hair. In other words, it's just what I expected from a knife used by a bunch of 18 to 20 year old soldiers. It'll be fine when I get through with it.

I had one of these in the 1980’s when I was a kid, now I have one again! Not perfect condition, but then you are buying a used knife. With bit of a scrub with soap and water and an oil they really can turn out nice, and you have yourself a classic GAK :-)

This is a great pocket knife. Mine came with a guard for the saw, and a lot of tape residue on the blade. It cleaned up nicely with some lighter fluid. It is quick to sharpen. I gutted and butchered a 90kg whitetail deer doe with it this week. The saw cut through the pelvis and sternum quickly. My friend with a 200 dollar hunting knife was very impressed.
