In blanket speech there's an old saying when it comes to warmth: "two is one and one is none". You really should purchase at least two of these English blankets if only because the holes are probably not in the same spots for that 100 % coverage. Of course we can't promise this.

The colour shades have a nice earthly tone to them, kinda like the palette of old Sheffield (colour photo). Colours range from light natural colours (cream white, light gray) to dark gray/brown. You'll get the next blanket on the box, we won't pick colours. Overall the shades are very archaic, perfect for historical re-enactments and all kinds of weirdness. Most have some very subtle stripes for easier folding. You can also cut them up for making garments. The size is about 200 x 150 cm, this varies a bit, usually upwards if anything.

Material

Made of wool or wool blend (viscose, polyester...?) - the main part being wool in every case. We suppose these can be machine washed in 30 degrees Celsius if needed. Drip dry and air them out.

Proper shit

Used British army stuff in poor condition; all of these are complete with holes, rips or tears and old stains.

All this said, if you can handle a needle and thread and maybe have some material at hand, you can patch 'em up yourself.

I have two of the dark blanket with the red stripe in the 3rd image. One half star missed because I can't talk to the condition of these blankets- but the item description gives fair warning. Not too thick but very heavy and wool rich. Quite scratchy but I have turned one into a cloak that I find no discomfort wearing. One of these will do you plenty outside on any night in the UK from spring through autumn, two would be perfect for winter. Really too heavy for camping imo for the insulation they provide compared to modern high loft materials but that doesn't stop me. Cheapest wool blankets around even if they are ugly colours.

I bought 2 blankets. One was dark grey, one was dark grey with some brown notes in it. They are honestly quite lovely. Nice scratchy wool, the kind that you can't find anymore. They have little bits of various colors, somewhat similar to a heather pattern. They are on the thicker side too, making them very suitable for sewing. They are in better condition than I expected and didn't actually have that much in the way of holes. They also smelled pretty clean,, which is a major win. If you want some old fashioned wool to work with for sewing or just want some good woolen blankets, these will work perfectly. Just don't expect something super soft and plush; these are old school blankets that will probable exfoliate your skin better than most abrasive skincare soaps.

Hey, any word on how thick these things are? Obviously, they aren't outrageously thick, but I am curious if they would be acceptable thickness for, say, sewing a flat cap.

I have some of these from a different supplier (the ones with the red folding stripes, in the 3rd image). Thickness is probably about right for a flat cap, maybe slightly thicker than you might normally use. I would estimate around 3 or 4 millimetres thick.

Thank you very much. You are spot on. These will make beautiful hats.
