WTF Tarnanzug Neu?

Tarnanzug Neu is the latest Austrian camouflage pattern first issued in 2019 to the Styrian Jägerbataillon 18 and then gradually to other units. The innovative name created by the army’s marketing department translates to “camouflage outfit new”. It is based on the Tarndruck SEK and Tarndruck beige patterns, although it uses spots instead of digital pixels.

It is clearly designed as a multi-use camouflage pattern that conceals well enough in most environments but isn’t optimized for anything specific. It creates a fairly decent camo effect in a forested environment and a very good one in a more arid environment. The blue-grey color was probably added for urban use. The pattern is also designed to be difficult to spot with night vision gear.

Features

Featurewise this is a pretty traditional boonie hat, made famous by the Vietnam War. There is a drawcord strap that keeps the hat on your head even in a storm. You also have the band for adding twigs and other camo stuff plus several air holes for cooling you down. Inside you’ll find the text “Heereseigentum", which means army property.

.

Materials

The fabric is 67 percent polyester and 33 percent cotton. Wash at 60 degrees Celsius (140 F).

Size info

In theory, these are in European hat sizes, which is the head circumference in centimeters. However, these are quite a bit smaller than what the label says! For, example, the size 59-60 is in reality 56-57. So, choose about 2-3 cm (1”) larger than your head. If your children/teens need a camo hat, the smaller ones here might offer a great option.

Condition

Austrian military surplus. These are considered used but in a very nice way. Some possibly completely unused.

Austrian surplus

Functional, neutral, clean. That's what the Austrian Bundesheer gear is made of. Our Austrian surplus revolves mostly around the Anzug 75 and Anzug 03 clothing systems, but who knows, maybe the "Tarnanzug Neu" will make it's appearance if the Austrians decide to clear the stocks in the future. Get your OD gear while the stocks last.

After the Second World War the Austrian soldier looked like a weird mixture of Allies and Germans; the M1 style helmet and general profile really tried to bring that NATO vibe up, but a lot of the gear and even the dotted camouflage pattern looked surprisingly much like WW2 German issue. In the 70s they took a major leap towards NATO with the introduction of the all-green Anzug 75 clothing and equipment system closely inspired by the American equivalents, finally letting go of the "old stuff". The Anzug 03 brought the game up to date with some changes in effort to modernize the whole thing. Now the Bundesheer is again moving over to camouflage.

Onhan se harmi, että isoaivoisille/niille joilla kumiaivot oli kookkaampaa jakotavaraa, ei ole niitä sopivia kokoja. Tahottoman pikkuisia lastenhattuja. Kuvio olisi kyllä siisti.
