Features
These black army boots look quite a bit like the Austrian KAZ 03 boots, but they are somewhat lighter. One boot weights c. 920 grams / 2 lbs (43). The larger ones naturally more and the smaller ones less. These are full leather boots without a lining or a membrane, so they breathe very well. Originally designed to be used in the mountains but they also work on flat Earth, too. The soles aren't any stiffer than in our other regular army boots. The Welt-construction enables resoling, which is usually available with a lot more money involved. Speed lacing familiar from hiking boots.
Choosing the right size
These are manufactured in the EU size system but we have also included the corresponding US/UK size.
Condition
Used Austrian military surplus. Some have seen less use, some considerably more. However, they are all intact and the soles aren’t worn out either. With proper polishing, you can make them look quite nice. Of course, if you want pristine shoes, buy brand spanking new ones.
Note that army surplus boots don’t usually come with insoles and even if they do, they are usually crappy. Get a pair of good insoles, e.g. from us and you will be happier.
Austrian surplus
Functional, neutral, clean. That's what the Austrian Bundesheer gear is made of. Our Austrian surplus revolves mostly around the Anzug 75 and Anzug 03 clothing systems, but who knows, maybe the "Tarnanzug Neu" will make it's appearance if the Austrians decide to clear the stocks in the future. Get your OD gear while the stocks last.
After the Second World War the Austrian soldier looked like a weird mixture of Allies and Germans; the M1 style helmet and general profile really tried to bring that NATO vibe up, but a lot of the gear and even the dotted camouflage pattern looked surprisingly much like WW2 German issue. In the 70s they took a major leap towards NATO with the introduction of the all-green Anzug 75 clothing and equipment system closely inspired by the American equivalents, finally letting go of the "old stuff". The Anzug 03 brought the game up to date with some changes in effort to modernize the whole thing. Now the Bundesheer is again moving over to camouflage.

Puoli tähteä pois lähinnä siksi, että ilmeisesti austrohungaarien jälkeläiset merkitsevät poistetun materiaalinsa piirtämällä ne täyteen erivärisiä viivoja (jotka kyllä saa lankilla piiloon)

The boots were immediately worn in -20 Fahrenheit with heavy snow and proved remarkably resilient for how thin the leather is. I would not dare call these winter boots though, more like field boots for spring and fall. I was also struck by how light they are, almost more like a pair of leather dress shoes with ankle support. These are badass boots and I plan on grabbing a pair of KAZ 03s. I have yet to go wrong with Austrian surplus and Varusteleka's service!
One half star deducted because I think the Austrian elf who resoled these in 2015 was hitting the Schnapps while working. The right sole is sewn on visibly crooked but this doesn't affect feel very noticeably, just looks odd.

Edit: I put in some 180cm laces from Mil-Tec (purchased here), it's a pretty good fit.

Kun ohuet pohjalliset , niin koko 45 passasi . Tosin matalan jalkaholvin ugrilaiselle vaatii hieman totuttelua .

Those are not mountain boots! They are normal combat boots mainly inteded for light duty. Not everything comming from Austria is intended for mountain use!
"Alpschuh" is just a manufacturer of boots, just like Kastinger/Stampa or Steinkogler.
The Austrian Army issued three kinds of boots:
. Those here (Feldschuh 08 - Field Boot 08), intended for light/barracks duty and parade. They are now being replaced by a shitty and cheap plastic boot that nobody likes.
. Next are the heavier ones (Kampfschuh 08 - Combat Boot 08) intended for heavy duty like fighting and hiking, also sometimes for mountaineering.
. And lastly the actual mountain boots (Hochgebirgsschuh - High Mountain Boot). Only mountain troops are issued those boots.
There are also lighter jungle boots made from leather and canvas, intended for hotter climates but also used for light/barrack duty.
