In Finland, spring break is scheduled for the end of February and early March and called skiing vacation. It was devised around the same as spring break in the United States: late 1920s to 1930s. The idea was to get some fresh air outdoors to energize children for the last part of the semester.

The very same children who were among the first to enjoy this convention would put their skills to use by the late 1930s for obvious reasons.

Skiing remains popular in Finland and its significance in our culture is highlighted by the fact that our equivalent of the English expression "Go to Hell!" is literally advice to travel on your skis into a cunt: "Suksi vittuun!".
