Varusteleka Road Show: Tammisaari SEP 19th - 21st 2019
The Tammisaari Fair will have a remote Varusteleka shop as well, because our pop-up container is brought in in the midst of the night.
The landing zone is on the market square and the container is open as follows:
- Thursday SEP 19th: 10-19
- Friday SEP 20th: 09-18
- Saturday SEP 21st: 10-16
We reserve the right to change opening times at a whim. Subscribe to the Facebook-event to be notified of possible changes!
The selection varies somewhat depending on the occasion. Naturally, we can't offer a very wide range of products, but we carry a good amount of fitting samples and you can place an order with free shipping from the container.
Come around and say hi!
This time, we carry the following key products
BW field shirt, Flecktarn, surplus
An excellent German Bundeswehr issue summer shirt for a few bucks. We used to sell these for 1 EUR, but our supplier saw high demand and upped the prices. This is still a damn good deal!
Finnish Canteen, 1 l
Finnish Army current model canteen. A very practical water bottle with a large opening and a metal hook for carrying without a pouch. You know this piece of kit is pretty good because the soldiers don't complain about it.
The traditional Shemagh scarf, which has, surprisingly enough, found its way to western military use. Many colours available.
Scho-Ka-Kola, 100 g tin can, dark, RED
This stuff in identically-shaped tins has kept the Germans awake since the 30's. Scho-Ka-Kola is chocolate with lots of caffeine, essentially a mild combat drug!
MFH pocket knife, straight edge
First we were like "what, you don't get a decent folding knife for that price", but after handling the first batch minds were changed: fits the hand, works and cuts. Try it out yourself!
Scho-Ka-Kola, 100 g tin can, wholemilk, BLUE
This stuff in identically-shaped tins has kept the Germans awake since the 30's. Scho-Ka-Kola is chocolate with lots of caffeine, essentially a mild combat drug! The wholemilk version isn't a wartime product, but a modern, sweeter alternative to the classic.
Särmä Merino Socks
If you still use cotton socks, dump them now and get these instead. These are superb for outdoor use, but work just as well as formal wear too! These aren't thick, so they can be used around the year. Made with our own specs in Finland.
Kalakalle Fish Cock, 182 g, canned
A traditional Finnish delicacy in canned version, 5 years of shelf life and does not contain cock! If "Fish Cock" doesn't automatically mean food to you, it's a Finnish speciality - fish baked inside rye bread. This is a perfect snack or trekking food, always ready to eat and contains enough energy to keep you going and enough high quality protein to keep you in shape.
Savotta Hand warmer, reusable, 3 pcs
A real "must have" for anybody who needs to be out in the cold! One of these palm sized pillows can keep your fingers warm for an hour even in freezing cold temperatures. As a little bonus these are shaped to fit under gas bottles of outdoor cookers.
Särmä Merino Wool Hoodie
Finally a proper hoodie - in this case the price doesn't come from a big name, but rather from the material, which is thickish Merino wool, which is probably the best fabric ever. Oh, and we haven't forgotten to design the cut properly too. Whether you like to move on foot or two wheels, for the love of God buy this!
Kalakalle Ham Cock, 182 g, canned
A ham variation of a traditional Finnish delicacy in canned version, 5 years of shelf life and does not contain cock! This is a perfect snack or trekking food, always ready to eat and contains enough energy to keep you going and enough high quality protein to keep you in shape.
Särmä Commando Cap, Merino Wool
The Finnish army "commando cap" is far more than just any woolly watch cap, it's something of a Finnish military tradition and very functional too, the double layered constrution giving it added warmth and insulation.
Särmä Assault Pack
Good and affordable urban rucksack of our own design - partially, at least. Just enough different compartments, compact dimensions but expands to about 20 litres (even more with extra pouches). If you have a lot of stuff that has to be accessed all the time, this is the thing for you.
Särmä Wood Stove, laser cut
A wood burning hobo stove of very very very Finnish design! This might not be the prettiest, lightest or handiest stove out there but it works, packs relatively small and is modestly priced and of course 100 % made in Finland.
Särmä Merino Fingerless Gloves
A pair of fingerless gloves. Beside the timeless homeless impression, fingerless gloves leave your fingertips free for all kinds of fiddling and work pretty well as glove liners. These are better than most, being made of Merino wool in a place called Tampere just north of here.
Jerkku beef jerky, 150 g
Probably the best beef jerky we've sunk our teeth in. Moreover, it comes in bigger 150 g portions and is made entirely in Finland, from Finnish beef and contains no suspicious additives - an honest meat product through and through. If you're looking for the ultimate snack or outdoor food, try this! 350 - 400 grams of fresh meat is used to make 150 grams of jerky!
Särmä TST L1 Balaclava, Merino Wool
A functional multi-purpose piece of headgear, can be worn as a balaclava or folded up to form a cap or folded down to form a tube scarf. Lightweight merino wool construction, highly breathable, comfortable and moisture-wicking.
Terävä Jääkäripuukko, carbon steel
30.99 - 57.99 USD
No fancy bullshit, the Jääkäripuukko is simply a proper no-nonsense utility knife. Quality carbon steel, traditional Finnish puukko blade profile with a slight drop point. The Jääkäripuukko is not designed to sit on a shelf for decoration, this is a honest tool made for hard work.
Särmä Large Assault Pack
Tired of stuffing big stuff in a small bag? Here's a pack for daily use with a bit more capacity than normal backpacks.
Särmä Women's Merino Wool Hoodie
Särmä merino hoodie is our single biggest money maker, which is no wonder, as it really is superb. It's good for women too - pretty much all our female employees have at least one - but here's something specifically tailored for female body and style.
Särmä Fabric Wax
Believe it or not, there was a time before spray-on treatments and polymer technology, but conditions were as unforgiving as ever. Protection from wind and water was a necessity, which was met with waxed canvas. A combination of paraffin and beeswax is a time-proven way to treat cotton and mixed fabrics to be wind- and waterproof, right on the spots you want it to be.
Särmä Softshell Jacket, Black
Today, softshell is pretty much what tight wool was back in the day; a great general purpose fabric for colder and uncertain weather. No wonder they make most of the sportswear of this. Our jacket is just a shell, so you can layer it any way you wish.
Särmä Windproof Fishtail Parka
There are many Fishtail Parkas but this one is ours. Standing on the shoulders of the US M51 Parka, we developed our own version. It's a highly requested model so it had to be done.
Särmä Wool Comb
Wool comb, cool womb. Ha-ha! So what is this thing and why would you need one? If you wear clothes made of wool or synthetic knits, you have seen little fuzzy bobbles appear as the garment wears. Pilling is the problem, meet the cure!
